Here we go AGAIN The way posters talk you would come to believe that the MMP's are The Villages version of Daytona Speed Way. I'll wager that the average speed on MMP's is less than 16mph given the amount of cart, bike and pedestrian traffic
Here we are discussing one accident and many posters believe it is proof positive that speeding golf carts are a major and serious problem. The official #1 cause for vehicle accidents is DISTRACTIONS.. One would come to believe listening to some of the comments here that from an actuarial stand point golf cart accidents are greatly surpassing statistics. If I focus on blue cars that is all I will see are blue cars. Some reference the fact that golf carts are designed to go no more than 15mph. first, I question that figure but more importantly The Villages lifestyle, and that of other communities greatly altered the use of golf carts. Perhaps a max of 15mph on a golf course is fine but is that speed actually conducive to the villages lifestyle and its continuing and rapid expansion? Also I have noticed a number of occupants in golf carts who appear rather frail. It is the main reason why I believe seat belts are a good thing that and the fact that occupants sometimes are in an unguarded position....none of which would require speed as the only ingredient to create a person to be ejected. The Villages is golf cart accessible and requires a whole other set of circumstances when it comes to the operation and needs of golf cart owners |

I hope she is OK. Seat belts work. All it takes is a quick turn, not so much a fast turn. Have a friend that it happened to them also.

Such little margin for error driving a golf cart. 18" either way can spell deep trouble. Attention / Awareness is key. I have passed (in our car) so many cart drivers on their phone or fiddling around at the wheel. Their carts are swerving and they seen unaware of cars or curbs so near. We are FIRM believers in seat belts - car & cart.
Don't like riding in carts without them, and always seem to be hanging onto handles just in case. And constantly aware of that curbing <18" to the right and what might happen if the wheel hits... Must say, altho our cart has pretty good suspension (Tomberlin) turning into cart paths from a street is a challenge at times - the slope of the curb jolts the cart easily. Bottom line - We ALL have responsibility when operating our car and carts. It is so important to take that responsibility seriously at all times. A second or two of lapse, and.... Sure hope the lady that was injured is recovering. Another reminder for us all to be cautious and careful out there. And enjoy our bit of Paradise here as well.
