I am looking for a person who can repair a hole caused by all the heavy rain runoff we have had lately. I got a hole that has opened up along the wall in the corner of my yard. I would not call it a sinkhole but I would like the repair done as suggested by the Florida Department of Environmental Protection.
1 - Concrete plug at the bottom for foundation 2 - Clayey sand packed to fill hole 3 - Topsoil 4 - Sod Hole is about 3' X 2'. Anyone know of anyone who can do this? Thanks |

I would get someone to check your guttering first.

I would call Villages Customer Service 352-753-0550 as I am not sure about ownership and maintenance of the wall, and ask them to investigate.

Looks like a soil washout to me, caused by heavy rain and no gutters. Florida soil is nothing like the heavy clay stuff many of us are familiar with from up north. Fill the hole and have gutters installed. Those are the first things I would do. Then keep an eye on it. Just my opinion. Good luck.

believe a simple underpinning will resolve the issue as you've defined it it correctly- just 'filling it in' probably won't resolve UNLESS the water's source is also addressed properly. no gutters ?, add them... you already have gutters ? address downspout runoff w/ leader drains- best wishes

Do not have the name of someone who could help you and looking at the picture does not help me. Not a sinkhole. Sinkholes are much more deeper.
You mentioned a hole. Is there a hole in the structure which allows rain water to get in? Does appear to be drainage issue and probably from roof drainage/and/or gutter problems. You might want to check and see if there is any indication that water is getting into the house. If water getting in carpet will be moist or staining might be seen on the baseboards. Someone in this area needs to start a buiness around here and the business would be diagnosing small problems so that the homeowner can contact the appropriate trades person. Every trades person I contact wants to give me a FREE estimate. The free estimate is usually 2X the cost of the actual job cost. Nothing is FREE. I call it included in the cost. |
