Default Kegs of Beer?

It has been so hot that when I saw a deeply discounted kegorator, I was forced to buy it.

So, my questions are: Where do folks get kegs of beer? Who has the best prices? Who actually stocks them? Are there any unique or interesting beers available locally?

In 2009 I bought a Sanyo Kegerator, one of their better home models for single pour, it ran me about $1,000. It was delivered by a trucking coming, came in a big box like a washing machine. It would not cool, found out that one of the coils in the back, which are on the outside of the unit, somehow was damaged and all the freon had leaked out. The seller described how to remove all the plumbing and pouring equipment so that just a shell of a unit was left and I put out in the garbage and they sent me a brand new unit.

I found with a regular half keg, this was in Baltimore and was about $50, you're suppose to get 88 12 ounce pours. There many problems, usually a foam head because when you finish pouring one beer, leftover beer if still in the line which is outside the refrigerated part in the tower. So you'll might need to add insulation to the chrome pouring tower, also make sure there is a good opening for cold air to reach up into the tower. If I remember corrently, beer should be 36 degrees, you'll want to have a water bottle inside the cooler on the floor with a thermometer in the bottle to get an accurate reading. When you get the keg, don't pour any the first day. You'll need it to settle down from the car ride and of course get recooled, most beer shops keep the kegs in the cooler.

I found I got a lot of this info and anytime I had a question, there are message boards. There is a big seller of kegerator called Micromatic and they have a good message board. Here's a link.

Forums - Dispense Forum | Discuss Keg Beer, Kegerators, Wine On Tap, and more!

A cheap way to get into the kegerator market is to just use an old refrigerator that you were probably going to discard. Micromatic sells conversion kits, I haven't looked at anything in ten years, but it use to be about $150 to turn that old frig into a kegerator. Of course, it's not going to look great in your kitchen, but if you're putting it on the lanai or in the garage, it doesn't matter.

Have a good time with your machine. I ended letting my go with the house when I sold it. I found out it was more work than I really wanted and there's enough opportunities to get draft beer out and about. You can dress up your unit, I went on eBay and bought a bar model Coors Light pouring handle, cost about $25. You can get chrome drip trays and other accessories at Micromatic.

Sorry John but better check with the wife because a makeshift old refrigerator on my lanai would never happen. No matter what you call it. LOL

I purchase my kegs at Kinder Spirits. Give them a call first to make sure they have your brand in stock.
