I am asking if there are any members who have applied for Social Security Disability, been denied and requested a reconsideration? Can anyone recommend an attorney who specializes in this topic that they may have used? Thank you in advance for your reply.

I have been involved in a couple of cases where people applied for disability. I seems the program is for the disability claim to be denied at least once. Some states grand disability easily while in others, it is nearly impossible to get aproval.At this moment . I have a 51 year old daughter who is usualy bed ridden 3 to 4 days every week. She in in almost constant pain, suffering from Fibromalgia, Lupus, Rumatoid (?) Arthritis. Sclaradoma and connective tissue disease. She has what is called foot drop and nerve loss in her right leg.She also falls a lot and has had two back surgeries. All that said, she has applied for disability benefits in Illinois and was denied. She is also alone and trying to survive. A year ago she did appeal the dnial but hasn't heard anything. For a while I worked with ill and injured employees at the Sheriff's Office which was my final employment.

In that position I learned that applications for Social Security Disability are almost always denied on the first request. Some people I know had to go back three and four times before it was granted.

Having a lawyer experienced in the field seems to help. I have no idea what that costs. I can't make a recommendation.

Maximum charge is 25% of Past Due Benefits.
......The MAX they will get is limited to $ 6000 by law.

The max past due benefits payable to you is limited to 12 months.


The attorney can negotiate the start date of disability much
better than the client can without representation.

I work in the industry. ( yes, I am still working) There are 3 levels - most people are denied on level unless you have a terminal diagnosis. Some states make quicker decisions than others. SSDI is reviewing to see if you can work at any occupation , not just your own occupation. The third level goes up in front of a law judge. Rarely are the claims denied when you are represented by an attorney in level 3 although I have seen a few. Allsup is a well known company in the industry for representation. Good luck!

You are always denied at first. You will need a lawyer who specializes in the field. A good disability lawyer will not charge anything unless you win. He also will not take your case unless he thinks you will win. If he takes your case it still may be denied a couple more times. Don't give up. When you win, he gets about 25% of retroactive payments. I know this from personal experience.

Try "Freedom Disability", the SSD experts. I worked at that site as a security guard, and I understand their success rate, is very high. They advocate for their clients. They have lawyers, and know how to navagate the SSDI system.

I know of a whole bunch of people that have social security disability that are not disabled so it can't be that hard to get. These people are more active than I am and don't have to work like I do. What a crime. A major problem in our country.

My wife got her disability on the first try, I filled out the paperwork. She is not terminal, but has permanent irreversible brain damage associated with a loss of O2 that occurred when her heart stopped pumping (Vfib).
