Sorta defeats the purpose of the event when a good share of the procedes would be for the Vescos pockets!!!!!

And as a result of not being a function in the square there was no news coverage or advertising before hand hence low turn out. They had a sky diver heqad for the lake and half way down unfurled a huge American flag....very nice.

All performers and exhibits were limited to the wooden part of the area next to the lake where the radio station is located. Very constrained area.....not fit for performers like the cheerleaders and twirlers, etc.

As we go forward the some things that made TV special and provided venues for support will continue to disappear, i.e. relay for life, no parades, yesterdays FUND RAISER for veterans.

I personally think it is a tragedy that these kinds events were merely part of the developers marketing.

Shame on the Vesco's for tarnishing one of the bright spots of fund raising in TV.

I do understand the concept of needing to be a profitable enterprise (the Veso's new ownership). What is not understandable is the crass, abrupt cutting off of events that USED TO BE a aprt of TV "lifestyle".

Unfortunately there will be more of this as the developer exits many more aspects of the "lifestyle".

Here is a copy of the email I just received from Janet Tutt regarding this event. It may clear some items up. I'm waiting for her to return my call so I can get an answer on a few other issues,

This was a “first time” event held by GMS. GMS approached the District about the use of the Pavilion for the event. They wanted to use that area as it better met their needs for what they were trying to accomplish. Ms. Vesco and Mr. Rohan were consulted while the event was being developed and both parties offered and provided suggestions and peripheral support (at no cost) to make sure safety, traffic flow and other planning concerns were addressed.

Please note that the Entertainment Division of The Villages of Lake Sumter does not have control of the square during the day. Any requests are directed to the District. I originally discussed GMS’s idea with them weeks ago and, from our initial discussion, they wanted to use the Pavilion area. If this worthy event planning group had felt the Square was the preferred location the decision would have been mine and not Ms. Vesco or The Villages.

I would also mention this event was carried in the Daily Sun with two full page color announcements. What is unfortunate is that the weather did not cooperate to the extent of the hard work GMS and others put into the day.

Hopefully this information clarifies the assumptions in your email and I welcome your contacting me regarding any of this information or any questions you may have regarding Sumter Landing.
