This grandma was obviously not trained in the safe use of a gun! NRA insists on safety classes!

I still fail to understand how knowing the "true" gory details of the incident in Duval is going to be of benefit to the "community" or to any person in the Villages.
If you are the type of person who considers home invasion to be a significant threat to your well being, then get a gun, or alarm system, or secure locks, or whatever relieves your anxiety.
If you're not, then don't.
No details necessary.

THANK YOU KittyGilchrist for releasing the story!...I was personally attacked by several here because I intimated there is a "Higher Power" here in the Villages that has a "STRONG INFLUENCE" over what is published in the Daily Sun.............and BTW Cedward38 YOU CAN GET home delivery here of the Orlando Sentinel....but you still need the Daily Sun for activity listings.

No details necessary.
The "details" might just help someone make a better informed decision on exactly what they plan to do, if anything.

I owe everyone an apology. I was skeptical because some very valid sources were thinking she was confused. I am sorry.
Yep...so many are too quick to judge or criticize others who disagree with them. I am SOOO happy I'm only here part time.

Not sure what exactly you mean by your statement. Are you accusing everyone here of being too quick to judge or criticize? The fact that you are only here part time... how does that help? And what do you mean by "here"? TV? TOTV?

I'm late to this discussion, but I agree with your last sentence, to a point. The Daily Sun could have reported that there was a break in, and state that details are being withheld pending the outcome of the law enforcement investigation. Simple, and straight forward, yes?

Nothing like picking isolated, singular incidents to prove your point!!! Obviously this one was a mistake and a near tragedy. The boy is recovering.

Many major studies throughout the U.S. Continue to highlight, that as Concealed Carry Permits go up in every State, that violent crime (other than gang related) has continued to be reduced. Even Illinois reported a 26% reduction in violent crime this past year (not including Chicago gang related killings).

We know what the media said. I reported what the woman said to a visitor to the hospital, who also reported that the woman had bruising, swelling and lacerations on her body.

That is all I know. Bottom line for me with these incidents is that the illusion of safety is sustained by the developer's control of media, efficiency of law enforcement is hindered by our spanning three counties and no central police force, and that in the absence of representative government, no one cares what I think.

Simple, yes.
But perhaps The Daily Sun was unable to verify that there was a break-in.

DITTO!! ...But it is a great lifestyle here - if they communicated crimes appropriately we would all be better prepared with security, guns, automatic locking doors or whatever way we deem necessary.....INCLUDING organizing Local Crime Watches in our Villages....

No...I'm not accusing everyone. However, the same people refuse to allow or respect others' opinions/ideas. We own a place here but our primary residence is Central Florida oceanfront. What a difference. Maybe because it's a mix of ages - not all old, crotchety, close minded people.
