Default Latest on the CR101 tunnel debacle

From www.districtgov.org:

"Status Update - CR101 Tunnel Closure 10/3/11
The attorneys for the District and Manufacturer have finalized an Agreement regarding the CR101 Tunnel Project. A signed copy of the Agreement will be placed on the agenda for final approval at the Village Community Development District No. 3 (VCDD No. 3) Board Meeting on October 14, 2011.

Following the VCDD No. 3 meeting on October 14, 2011, please check the District website for all updates on the CR101 Tunnel Project as mobilization for construction is expected to commence shortly after approval of the Agreement. We ask that you continue to use caution at the temporary four-way stop, located north of the closed tunnel, where golf carts are currently allowed to cross CR101."

We live just south of The Tunnel, in the winter months. When we left TV in April, The Tunnel had
been 'temporarily closed' for some time. Does this mean they haven't done any repair work in six months?

Methinks that if carts have used the "overhead route" for a year, it will be hard to convert them back to using the tunnel.

Cool

Bill: Thanks for the update....

Yeah, I drove by that tunnel last week. There are weeds and grass growing up through the concrete on the ramps into the tunnel. I don't see any chunks of concrete, that has fallen off either.

Personally, I believe the 4-way is working just fine.

Barefoot: Other than conduct an engineering study/analysis, nothing has changed in that tunnel since you left last fall.

There is a CDD3 meeting on 10/14. At the meeting an agreement will be voted on and hopefully approved. If approved the work is supposed to start within 15 days and be completed within 75 days of the start. The complete agreement can be viewed at http://www.districtgov.org/PDFView/P...20111014031006

Leave the 4-way stop sign - it works great
Put another 4-way stop sign at the exit from the Publix shopping center - if driving out of the center (and want to go left) there is two lanes of traffic coming from your left --- two lanes going the way you want to go (from the right) - then there is one lane coming at you. You not only have to cross two lanes from left and inter the two lanes from the right - dont forget the cars coming at you, who could go straight or left or right
Designer should get a award - at least from the auto body and repair group

What paper? What day?

And a question - Did you read http://www.districtgov.org/PDFView/P...20111014031006

Elevatorman took the time to post it.

B-n-B why is it a debacle? Would it be better if they didn't find the problem?
or ignored it? Just asking.

Obviously crossing CR 101 above ground is easier than taking the tunnel, and a solution that is preferred by many. Surely District 3 has given some thought to not repairing the tunnel at all. I wonder why they've decided to repair the tunnel now, when it hasn't been a priority for the past seven months. Surely they knew there would be a large traffic increase in Oct/Nov with snowbirds returning in flocks.

I think you're misinterpreting my intent with the use of the word "debacle". To me, it means a 'disaster' or a 'mess'. Such an extensive issue with a cart tunnel is certainly a big issue - unexpected and, hopefully, a one-of-a-kind event.

Things haven't gone as hoped by all parties involved since the falling concrete in the tunnel first surfaced. Hope was that the resolution and fix would happen quickly. The work-around with the temporary 4-way stop has served everyone well, though!

I certainly wasn't trying to imply that the problem should be ignored or left unaddressed - I'm sorry if you took it that way. But thanks for asking for the opportunity to offer a bit of clarification. Hope it helps!!

Sorry Bombero but I wasn't able to use your link. I read this in The Daily Sun last week and i don't remember the day. My old papers were dropped off at St Timothy's Sunday. The article also mentioned that the up-keep of the fence back of my house on Buena Vista is now my responsibility. Wonder what they would do if i tore it down???

Getting back to the tunnell. I think the price was around $160,000 and paid for by district 3. Seems to me the merchants should pick this up.

A sincere thank-you for the clarification. I now understand.

If everyone took the time to read the link mentioned, they would understand
why there was no quick resolution or fix. (Nothing is quick with government.)
In this case I think they did a good job of looking out for us.

Cut and paste the link. If I'm reading it right...we are not paying a dime.

I found the article in the "Sun". 15 Oct. Saturday page A8. It does not mention a cost or who has to pay. It states CDD3 supervisors approved
an agreement for repairs to the CR 101 tunnel. That agreement is in the LINK
that nobody is reading. http://www.districtgov.org/PDFView/P...20111014031006

It also stated the Board Chairman did not feel that CCD3 should be responsible for the tunnel.

Default good deal for villagers

Sounds like the contractor is picking up all costs. We're lucky the contractor is still in business and able to address the fix. Many contractors must have gone out of business over the years since this was built. Good job by District gov't to get the cost recovery from the contractor.

When the tunnel has been repaired, I think it will be tough to "retrain" drivers to use it. I guess there"ll be a cop stationed there for awhile.
