Default Laundry in Garage a real issue?

Hi Folks ... I am looking to purchase a CYV or house and a number of offerings have laundry's in the garage. My bias would be to have a laundry room in the unit.

If you have or have had laundry faciilities in the garage before does it bother you or wish you would have chosen a unit with a true laundry room? Knowing now what you know would you have chosen a different unit with a true laundry room if you could choose all over again? I know there are many reasons to choose a unit to purchase but I am trying to assess if I should hold out for the laundry room option or am I being overly sensative to this perceived issue.

Many thanks in advance for your thoughtful input.

It's a matter of choice. Garages can get hot for a good part of the year. We chose a home with the laundry in the house and have been happy with that choice.

Lived here for 12 yrs with laundry in garage and personally I have no problem with that. Yes it does get warm out there in the summer but I don't spend a lot of time dealing with laundry. I think which ever route you go you will adjust to the set up. I like having freed up more inside room.

It's a personal thing for sure. Some don't mind, but we had laundry in garage years ago in the Panhandle and swore "never again". And we are happy to have lived up to that vow. Just our experience/opinion.

many of us on the historic side have the laundry out in the utility room - outside the house and thru the carport! ideal? pfft! it's better than walking up/down stairs as i do elsewhere! and - as mentioned - there is more room inside the house!

bottom line - is it worth it to YOU to possibly lose a great house because of where the laundry is?

Ours is in the garage, no preference, that's just what our home had when we bought it. One good thing, it is quieter than having it inside the home.

When we lived in California our washer/dryer were in the garage. When our baby was sleeping I was able to do wash and heard nothing from a rumbling machine. Since then they have always been in the house including here.

Just think, if the washer ever flooded over, no problem!

Had laundry in garage for years.. when we bought here, would not consider garage laundry, But I may have missed out on a house great view , etc… I survived doing the laundry in the garage.. maybe lost a few pounds sweating while I did it !!!

We had a CYV with laundry in the garage. I didn't like it at all. Most of the CYV garages are already too small (in my humble opinion). Now we have a house with an inside laundry, which I much prefer. The laundry room, which offers additional storage space, is located beside the Master bedroom. It's so convenient.

And when your husband opens the garage door unexpectedly, your neighbors can watch you doing your laundry in your Birthday suit.

I vote for laundry inside the house. Good point that it is quieter in the garage, but it is hot and possibly dirty in the garage. Also agree that it takes up room in the smaller garages.

The choice is yours, of course!

Most of us moved down from the North where you didn't have laundry in the garage for obvious reasons. Our first home in Florida had the laundry in the garage. No real problem with the heat if you do your laundry early or late in the day. We had a screen on the garage too---a must if the laundry is in the garage----you could see out but not in.

I was in a designer home in TV recently that had deliberately put the laundry in the garage. She said, to make an office out of the laundry room in the house. Whatever works for you.
