Default Laundry room location?

As we narrow our search for our place in TV, I am curious about how big an inconvience it is to have your laundry in the garage. Are there any advantages? I assume one drawback is you have to lug your laundry out to the garage but maybe that isn't a big deal in FL. Thanks in advance for your advice and comments.

I would guess that when it's really hot out or cold it could be a little uncomfortable in the garage since the space isn't conditioned. About the only thing I can think of.

Interesting question. Before we purchased, I also wondered about the inconvenience of doing laundry in the garage. Seemed barbaric.

Now I have a CYV with laundry in the garage. It is no trouble at all. Not a bit. Easy Peasy.

Default consider noise

I have rented both inside and garage laundry. The inside was a cabot cove model. Never thought about the fact that a laundry is basically in the kitchen can make it VERY noisy in the kitchen and trying to watch tv in the living room. Consider the noise level of a washer when deciding. Now if you have a separate laundry room that can make all the difference. The Cabot Cove just had cafe doors to the kitchen and was more or less open.

Actually, having your laundry in the garage would be handy. As stated above, there is much less noise in the house if it is in the garage. A previous concern was the being cold or hot in the garage. Many of the garages here in TV are air conditioned and heated. Ours is in a laundry room and I almost wish it was in the garage sometimes. But then, you'll lose some valuable storage space in the garage. Pros and cons to both locations.

Our CYV has a laundry room inside with a pocket door. We think it's much better than doing laundry in the garage in heat or cold

I have had laundry room both inside the house and also in the garage and from personal experience I much preferred it in the garage. I had an incident where one of the hoses came loose on the washer and Thank God it was in the garge. I also enjoyed the set tub next to the washer and put a piece of plywood on top of it and it made a handy fording table. I agree the problem of heat and cold but for the short time it takes to start your laundry you spent very little time in the garage

Another one who likes the laundry "room" in the garage. You can always bring the clothes inside to fold them. It's quieter, less damage if there's a leak, gives you extra space inside.

At the same time, the garages here are small, so it does take away from garage storage or vehicles/golf carts. Plus, if you're one of those who HAS to fold as clothes come out of the dryer, it can get dang hot to fold in the garage.

So, takes your pick and go with the home you like. I think in the long run, you'll find it won't make that much of a difference.

After renting a house in TV with the laundry room just off the kitchen, there is no doubt that when I purchase, the laundry room will be in the garage. The noise from the washer and dryer is deafening and I don't hear all that well. "Lugging" the clothes into the garage is so easy and close that it is really not an issue.

It is a no brainer; put the washer and dryer in the garage.

Well, since I've read a few previous posts where people mentioned they occasionally had a snake in their garage , I know I'll demand my washer/dryer be in the house!

We love everything about our Anna Maria. We hesitated a bit about the garage laundry but then tiled the garage floor and installed a translucent motorized garage screen so the neighbors didn't have to watch us do laundry. It's the perfect extra room!

I am by no means an admirer of snakes, however it is Florida and you will see one from time to time. Most snakes are harmless and keep insects down. Get to know how to regognise different snakes and beleive me they are more afraid of you than you are of them.In 2004 when we had 4 Hurricanes back to back it brought out many Varmits including snakes. Keep your Garage Door closed especially after sunset. The washer and dryer in the Garage is the Greatest and safest place in case ther is a leak.

Default Interior vs garage laundry facilities

SNAKES!!! It makes no difference to me if they are venomous or not I have no desire to share my living space with them.

That being said I've stayed in homes in TV with laundry inside and laundry in the garage. Stayed in one of the big cottages by LSL and the laundry was in a separate room with a louvered door close to the entrance. What a racket!!!! Waaaay too noisy. In the garage I never heard a thing. Some folks worry about when it's really hot outside that it will be uncomfortable in the garage but remember that it gets warm where ever you have a dryer anyway maybe just not as humid.

I have my laundry in the garage. It is quieter, doesn't take up space in my house and it is setting on a cement slab so it is a comfortable height . I wasn't sure if I'd like it or not when I bought the house but I have to say it is very convenient and quiet.
