I was thinking of an actual red light at that crossing. I think they have wasted their time and money with this quick fix to that traffic problem. It runs smoothly with Community Watch directing traffic. When the snow birds come back, I see no difference on the control/flow of traffic than before. This flashing light isn't going to slow down or stop traffic so that carts can proceed safely. What were they thinking? I think after a short while, someone will recognize the fact that this is not the solution to a serious problem at this crossing. Does anyone have a different outlook on this situation?

Your looking at the old yellow light that has always been there. The new lights will be in a flashing mode for a week then start as a regular stop light operation. That is my understanding.

I'm not in TV right now, but why couldn't they have done 4-way stop signs? It seems like that would have been more cost effective.

With the number of cart drivers receiving tickets for not running Stop Signs I think this will be better. Note: I use that intersection daily and have never had a problem with crossing.

Probably because a large number of Villagers view stop signs as suggestions. I fully expect to see them view the traffic signals as suggestions as well.

I hope I'm wrong, but I think this will now be a very dangerous intersection for a while. There will be both cars and carts running that light for a while.
Folks will just be on autopilot and not see the new light or will just run it anyway. The speed limit is 20mph on that street, but you'd be hard pressed to find anyone adhering to that. Hope I'm being a pessimist! |

I had a solution to the issue that was well received (email with positive reply and feedback) but they had already decided on the lights. It was similar to 466 process. However , maybe they should consider using speed bumps similar to the kind on Rolling Acres coming up to the intersection. Since golf carts can't travel from the west, the bump(s) could go across the lane heading east reminding them of the light. The westbound lane could have a half/lane set of bump(s) for cars reminding them of the light. Golf carts would turn right or left at the light. Maybe smaller sets could be used for carts on the cart path?

I think the lights are difficult to see, off on the side. Usually lights are out over the road. I'm afraid some people driving cars won't see they have a red light and plow right through the intersection. People in carts who have a green light will ASSUME they can proceed into the intersection, without looking. I'm concerned there can be some very bad accidents.

Went through today, and the light is fully functional (perhaps OP didn't hear it would be in flashing mode for a few days while people acclimated to it). We waited in our cart to cross, got the green and went through. Not as good as a bridge or tunnel, however, it should work - people seem to pay more attention to stop lights than they do to signs.

It seems to be working fine. I had to stop for the red light to let a couple of carts cross and it was just a few seconds that the light turned green for me. I wonder if they have some sort of traffic detector there.
