I saw the hit. It streaked straight down and exploded onto whatever it hit. Must have been outside TV...fruitland park rural maybe.

I saw a big bolt go down by seabreeze. It must not have hit anything important because I didn't hear any sirens after.

I hope it didn't hit Burke's.

It wasn't a lightning bolt. It was just me trying to be an electrician

Lightening hit my neighbors house here in Springdale last night, luckily the whole house surge protector outside took the hit and saved it from getting to the wood or the house would have gone up. Looks like it took out the whole electrical panel for her swim spa though, she was very lucky. Waiting on ins. now and another electrician to come out. We have a whole house surge protector and lightening rods , I hate Florida lightening! LOL

Suffice is to say that I don't need any hair jelly to keep my hair spiked.

We got hit when a supercell came through Tampa this Spring.
We have a whole house surge protector but it came through
our security system. Took out security, phones, garage door opener,
exercise bike, amplifier.
It was scary!

"Whole house" surge protection is a misleading term. If you have a surge protection device on your electric panel by an electrician or a device on your on your electric meter you have Primary Surge Protection but not whole house. You also need Secondary Surge Protection on all of items that were damaged. See the August 2013, Lightning Matters column in the POA Bulletin at POA4us.org.

I missed the whole thing, probably in the house hiding!

Did the home that got hit on Sept 6th have lightning rods? Was either the Marion County or Villages fire department called? If there was no physical damage it may have been a nearby indirect strike. Did they inspect the attic over the garage where the gas manifold is located to check the integrity of the gas pipe?
