Default Lights On in Tunnels

I feel Golf carts and bycycles should turn lights on when going through tunnels, easier to see. I have started doing so on my electric cart. Especialy bad for people using Transitions Glasses.

My lights are on all the time. I got stopped one day by a guy franticly waving. I said what's up he says your lights are on . My reply well that's good you saw me coming. Oh that's a good idea he says. Your car has daytime running lights so why not the golf cart?

That's why I installed the LED lights from Liquid Lights. Turn key on and they come on. Day or night. I tried the headlights but I found that they burnt out to quick.

Really?? What kind of headlights did you try? I've owned my cart for over two and a half years and it's a 2002. I haven't had the lights burn out yet. I also had a problem where I didn't have a voltage reducer so for about the first six months that I owned the cart, and who know for how long the previous owner had it, the headlights were getting 48 volts when the should have ben getting only 12. They were so hot that you couldn't get near them. Still, I haven't replaced a head light bulb in over two and a half years.

I would just be happy if the turn signals were used, and that the stop signs were respected

At least one of the tunnel's interior (north of 466 I think, sorry can't recall the exact one) is painted a very light color, beige? Anyway it makes a big difference in the the light level inside the tunnel, especially in the day time. No "black hole" in the middle. At night, headlights really reflect, make visibility much better. Didn't even feel the need for lighting as we drive through.

Painting the interiors could to be a good cost effective solution. Seems like a no-brainer to me.

It is a no brainer choice wise. The problem becomes one of whther there is sufficient money in the budget to accomodate ex budget requests?
Ususally exbudget items are covered by slack or contingency in the budget. Or traded dollars from a lessor priority expenditure. Or, GOD forbid it doesn't start, raise the amenity fees.

Soon we will be on our own as a community with no developer around to fund niceties. Then we as a community will have to learn to live within the means of the budget.

You are correct. An un-budgeted project of this size would be not be possible during current budget year.

However, it has to begin somewhere so start the planning and funding process now.

Spread the project (to improve visibility by painting all tunnel interiors) over the next 2-3 years. Just as any large organization does, budgeted items are approved based on needs and priorities. Some budget requests "win", others are delayed and others are dropped.

As an example, a strong case can be made that improving safety in our tunnels is a more important item (budget-wise) than our extensive and wonderful landscaping. In my opinion, painting tunnels could be funded from landscaping $$, without any noticeable change to the greenways we all enjoy today.
