Check out the Village line dance website VillageLineDancer.Com - Home which lists just about everything you need to know about dancing in TV. Step Sheets are usually available at CopperKnob - Linedance Stepsheets.
Great exercise and so much fun.

How on earth do you remember all those steps???

Every step has a name, once you "get" the step with the name you can basically dance any dance. It's really good for keeping the brain sharp.

So who decides what steps go with what songs and do they call it out like square dancing?

For anyone interested, I would suggest you go to a real beginner class, Jean and the twins have beginner classes, the Twins teach on Mondays at Colony and Jean teaches on Thursday at Laurel Manor, times are in the weekly Rec News insert in the newspaper. I think the biggest mistake you could make is to dive straight into an advanced class because you will not be able to understand what is going on and you'll probably never go back. If your other half no longer dances and you still want to move to music, this is a great way to do it, plus the added bonus is meeting people just like you.

Some of the dances we do a lot because we favor them. I dance up at the square on a good week maybe 5 times.
If I really like the band (DSB is my favorite) I stay the whole 4 hours. Certain songs are non negotiable. We do specific dances with certain songs. Others we feel the beat of the music and then suggest a dance we feel would work. Usually there's one or two calling the dances sometimes it's a corporate thing depending on who shows up. I'm usually one of the leaders and will call a dance and/or help teach it up on the square for those who don't know it. |

The steps are all the same, it's the names that are hard to remember!
