Default Anybody Else Lose Channel 9 On Their Antenna System

Friday night channel 9 / WFTV started getting finicky and then disappeared for good off my antenna fed system. I'm wondering what changed to cause the lose of signal ? Anybody else who uses an antenna lose channel 9 ? Hope it's just atmospheric conditions.

With our antenna that happens from time to time. Wait until a clear day and go to the settings function on your TV and run the function that searches for over the air signals and recalibrates the available channels. This will typically fix the problem and sometimes you wind up getting a surprise new channel or two. Good luck : )

Yes, that happened here, but about two weeks ago. It disappeared for two days or so, then reappeared and has been good ever since.

It happened on Xfinity as well. Also their sister station, channel 27 (14).

Happened to me also. Came back a couple nights later. Not sure what changed but two days without Pat Harper and Steve Bosh was enough. Love those Crazy Eddie commercials!!!

Channel 9 was the only network channel I struggled to get consistently on my old antenna attic setup, which was an "all in one" Amazon UHF antenna with a built-in pre amp.

When the pre-amp died, I replaced it with this (also from Amazon) - Long Range UHF- HDTV 91 Element Yagi Antenna from Steller Labs. I went with a separate pre-Amp which was a Winegard LNA-200 Boost XT HDTV Preamplifier, TV Antenna Amplifier Signal Booster, HD Digital VHF UHF Amplifier.

I now get 9 consistently, although the signal strength will drop to one bar out of five during some parts of the day, and during the recent rain we had. I also did a rescan one cool clear morning, and received 90 - yes 90 - channels. Some very weak, and can't receive throughout the day. Others are duplicates, and only about 40 might have something you would want to watch. But still, 90 channels!

Here's the link to the other thread if you want more details:

We have had a lot of ducting lately. Tropospheric ducting causes interference with over the air TV signals. Tropospheric ducting occurs when a TV or radio signal is reflected off of the troposphere and continues on a path that allows the signal to travel much farther than it normally would. This occurs when the temperature in the atmosphere experiences a shift called an inversion. When a temperature inversion occurs, radio waves that would normally continue into space beyond the Earth’s atmosphere are instead reflected and continue to follow the curvature of the planet. Florida often receives interference on channel 9 from WEAR TV in Pensacola. I have seen this a lot in early morning and evening as of late.

Remember that the OTA TV is line-of-sight. Meaning that your antenna has to be able to see the transmitter antenna, which is about 80 miles because of the curvature of the Earth (unless you are of the flat Earth version).
There is a guy that only does antenna reviews "AnntenaManPA.com". He'll give the real story on them.

And fortunately Florida is flat as a pancake, which makes things work a bit better if you just elevate your antenna marginally.

And yes, "Antenna Man" has great videos on YouTube that explains alot, and reviews antennas, so you can get a good idea of what you can expect as far as performance before you buy.

Channel 9 isn't coming in for me either. It did when my antenna was installed, but it's been an issue the next day and ever since.

We have dish and it went out over a week ago, we also have antenna and it is out on that too. No wheel and wife is really upset. Nothing in the newspaper about it and they still show the schedule in the TV listings, some one might want to let them know it is out.

The way everything is getting nothing would surprise me. I wouldn’t be surprised if this message wouldn’t get disposed of!

Well, Channel 9 decided to come back on last night. Too late for Jeopardy, though.

MeTV is off line on Dish as of last night. Such a shame. Dad loves the old shows. Hopefully they will get it back soon.
