Default Sam’s Club Prime Counter

Sam’s Club on 441 has a Prime Meat counter where you can purchase Prime quality beef. Filet to tomahawk steaks. And you can purchase a single steak at a time. Prices are 1/2 that of the Sawgrass market. $60/lb filet and $36 / lb sirloin steaks at the Sawgrass market are a bit out of price points.

Default Belleview Meats & Seafood

Belleview Meats & Seafood has some good options - a 20 - 30 minute drive though.

The best around is Billy's in Groveland on Hwy.19. It is worth the drive.

Interestingly, a few years ago I went to Publix and asked where they got their beef from---the answer was Mexico. Then I went to Winn-Dixie and again the answer was Mexico. Finally, I went to Fresh Market where the answer was Kansas. Guess where I buy my beef?

I have purchased USDA Prime filets at Sam's and also at Publix. I prefer the Publix steaks. They are a bit more expensive than Sam's, but nowhere near $60 per pound. I think they are more like $45 per pound at Publix. Costco also sells some USDA Prime filet, but you need to buy about 6 to 8 steaks. Note that all Publix stores do not sell USDA Prime steaks. I buy them at the Colony Plaza store, and they usually have them about 4 days per week. I think that the USDA Prime grade only accounts for about 10-12 percent of the beef sold, but there is definitely a difference in quality between Prime and Choice.

Filet mignon is the most popular steak ordered in restaurants, but I find it strange that, even the highest priced steak restaurants, like Mark's, Chophouse, and Prime 3, do not sell a USDA Prime filet. You need to go to a place like Ruth Chris near Orlando to get a USDA Prime filet mignon.

You answered your own question. “The high priced” restaurants can’t price any higher. The biggest complaint here isn’t the quality of the food it’s the price. Clearly most people would rather pay less money for less quality food. I’d always drive to Orlando for anything above mediocre.

Excellent butcher/meat market at Sawgrass. Sawgrass is near Ezell Rec Center if you don’t know the South area.

Default HM Cattle

HM Cattle just opened a shop in Mascotte…not too far! They have a truck at Brownwood Farmers Market every Saturday. You can order on their website and pick up at the truck…or go to the new shop! Amazing meats!

Correct. That is why, when I go to a steak restaurant, I don't order steak.
