That's why I care about the trashing of our community that feeds the ignorance, stereotyping, and prejudice against all the good people who make this the best community we've ever lived in. It's really the feeding of bigotry and prejudice that bothers me more than the actual seediness they publish. I regularly laugh out loud at the ridiculousness on the tabloids at the checkout counters. But this is about our community and our people who are decent and good citizens. |

Aside from a few entertainment features here and there, it seems to just be a running police blotter. The Sun runs all the same crime and crash stories each day in the local news section. It's all about preference. I'm just not as entertained as some folks about reading the next DUI or petty theft offense. |
Since I prefer to remain in reality by being informed about all that goes on in the area, the good and the bad, I check the online paper regularly. I want to know about crimes being committed, traffic issues, new construction, etc. The medical column written by a retired physician is informative and worthwhile. The DUI mugshots are priceless! Drunk/drugged drivers are no joke and cause great property damage, injuries and even deaths. The public deserves to see who they are. On a lighter note I have enjoyed the photos of the crappy vehicle parking all around TV. Hopefully the photos will improve parking habits and make The Villages an even nice place to live.
As I see it the paper has no axe to grind one way or the other. The letters to the editor are another matter so I always take them with a grain of salt although I rarely bother reading them. |

And as I said in the first post, I didn't go there to purposely look at it. It came into my facebook news feed because a couple of friends had "liked" it awhile ago. The "Kool-Ade", "ever so slowly bleeding you" in the captions by the "news"paper were too noticeable to overlook. |
Some of the comments here imply that the editor of this online news tries to paint The Villages in a negative light. I don't see that. It is basically a "police blotter" with the vast majority of information coming from police reports in and around our community. There is not a lot of good news to be found in police reports but they are factual. The Daily Sun reminds me of the regional neighborhood news papers up north. Not much real news, more local features and a vehicle for local advertising.

The bigger sin is a publication that censure news ,reformats it to their political philosophy, or omits news items entirely.
The publication in question and the ad in particular reference a letter written by a resident expressing his feeling and beliefs. It is the resident's God given right and its base on factual evidence experienced by at least 13,000 other residents. Freedom of speech is guaranteed to offend someone but its the price we pay for that freedom. What some posters are suggesting here is a restriction on the freedom of speech because its doesn't fit their world view. you can't hide the truth and the truth will set you free. Here again is another example of those residents who seem to believe that they have to come to the defense of The Villages when in fact they should be coming to the defense of residents or at least remaining neutral. It just causes one to furrow a brow and scratch the back of the head? My neighbors are important to me not some business entity. The Villages doesn't need defending they have the high ground they have loads of money and they have the political connections, essentially the power Some poster mentioned Facebook. Facebook has shown its manipulation of news concerning politics based on it founders beliefs. any form of a news outlet that restricts free flow of information and/or manipulates news is not a worthy publication. Its unethical journalism and in my view commits what I consider the graves sin of all HYPOCRISY which essentially creates a breach of trust and once trust is broken it can seldom can be reinstated. Personal Best Regards: |

I found it shortly after I joined here when someone was screeching about it then. I simply saved it to favorites and go look occasionally, but have not had to sign up for anything. I guess what continually amazes me however, are all the people that become apoplectic about a news source that actually doesn't withhold facts and is willing to be more than a "company town rag trying to sell homes"...such as we have with The Happy Paper. Even for those who are thoroughly opposed to the 1st Amendment of the COTUS (which quite surprisingly given the political makeup, seems to be quite a few around here), you have to make an effort to get to that (or any other) news sources...so the solution to what so easily sends you into a rage is actually quite controllable. Just STOP making that effort of clicking on the site...and your problems are solved. It really is as simple as that. :ho: And it's just a guess on my part, but I'm thinking those same people don't really care for the POA newsletter either. :D |

I love the "online rag" it's like Paul Harvey said {THE REST OF THE STORY} there's 3 sides to every story.

Online village newspaper is not a rag. It had highlighted heartless treatment of villagers by developers. The villagers health center debacle & morse bridge repair cost being put on villagers. Developers are ruining their reputation, all over the country, by their own greedy actions.
Encourage reading of villages on line news. Hope it saves you from grief i'm going through. |
