I found it shortly after I joined here when someone was screeching about it then. I simply saved it to favorites and go look occasionally, but have not had to sign up for anything.

I guess what continually amazes me however, are all the people that become apoplectic about a news source that actually doesn't withhold facts and is willing to be more than a "company town rag trying to sell homes"...such as we have with The Happy Paper.

Even for those who are thoroughly opposed to the 1st Amendment of the COTUS (which quite surprisingly given the political makeup, seems to be quite a few around here), you have to make an effort to get to that (or any other) news sources...so the solution to what so easily sends you into a rage is actually quite controllable.

Just STOP making that effort of clicking on the site...and your problems are solved.

It really is as simple as that. :ho:

And it's just a guess on my part, but I'm thinking those same people don't really care for the POA newsletter either. :D

Beginning to wonder if some of you even read the "Happy Paper"
With their extensive death penalty coverage, Black Lives Matter and Orlando shooting stories taking up the front pages recently, it doesn't seem so happy.

Past discussions on this included the fact that, while crime reports are definitely needed, all the seediest mug shuts available in the vicinity do not have to fill the front page with the creeps, which overshadows articles about normal, decent Villagers doing all kinds of good for the community, the needy, and each other.

Gerry has it right: it's like "national enquirer for seniors".

:ohdear:

Maybe you should talk to the "Happy Paper" editor and see if a little more realism can be inserted into the DS. If the DS was more balanced and realistic, maybe people would not need to read the online paper.

I called the "be happy" paper reporter" who wrote the article about the insurance change in the tv health. Asked when when he would write article about patients established at tvh & now having to try to find new doctors because of insurance conflicts & loss of benefits.
He refused to write article covering the other side of tv health decision & hung up on me.

I haven't ever called the paper and been hung up on. In fact I can't recall ever being hung up on by any business.

Needing to point out the obvious...is but one symptom of the problem.

I think world and National issues are very unhappy right now and are of interest to many.

Does anyone else notice kind of a barrage of taunts and negativism from a certain group? Having been called a bully I am reluctant to say more than that. What makes one group more valid than another group?

Heck I don't care. What is wrong with certain people that they are only happy saying ugly things? I think that most of us are pretty savvy folks and we don't see the glass half empty. I think we are being bullied for being positive.

And I do agree with the OP in that here has been a huge shift in Journalism lately over at the online news.

I will soon read posts about my unrealistic enjoyment of all things here and I will wonder to myself what is the motive behind all of this negativity.

I am a resident, I do not find it to be a rag. It just reports the news. None of is a lie that I see so far.

There are many sources for information about the Villages and I like seeing the good, the bad and the ugly.

This is a very large area with a population of well over 150,000 so there are going to be more problems as it grows even bigger.

Not sure how they got that number but it does show up in research.

I even look at Topix.com once in a while and that usually is less mature than what you might find written on a Junior High Bathroom wall probably written by someone with the emotional sensitivity of a backward eight year old.

Actually some of them are probably quite nice.

I don't believe anyone is "upset" over it. Just voicing an opinion.

Has nothing to do with WHAT they report, but the WAY they report. Misspelling, sensationalize stories. It's just not done in a professional manner. They need to at the least take a journalism class. There is no getting around the fact that they are a "rag". People will continue to read it, just like people keep buying National Inquirer. People eat this junk up......go figure.
