Default Long distance landlord

We are thinking about buying a home in TV and would want to rent it for a year untill we could become full time residents. We would prefer to do it as FRBO.

Any suggestions as how we should approach being a "Long Distance Landlord" with the possiblity of having someone there to keep an eye on things.

I am currently a long distance landlord. I have a couple of more years until I am able to use my villa since I am still working in NY.

I advertise my place on www.thevillages4rent.com and handle all of the contract details and money myself. I am fortunate that I have a sister that is a resident and keeps an eye on my place. When my sister is in NY, I have a great house watch person, Redwitch, that keeps an eye on my place.

I was concerned about being a long distance landlord but have found it to not be as much as a problem as I had thought.

Feel free to send me a pm if you want more detailed information.
