Except for being in the rear or side of the house, how are these any different than similar lights the line the ribs on a large birdcage over a pool area. These perform the same function and can be seen from roads and pathways.

We are installing these on our home. The lights are made to change colors but we will primarily use the white light and only use color during Christmas.

The Villages seems to becoming a caricature of what a lot of outsiders claim The Villages really is. A lot of folks are determined to create the tackiest, carnival atmosphere possible. Some of the golf carts look like a 16 year old's idea of "cool" ... in the 60's. It's embarrassing. How can a grownup believe lining the eaves of their home with flashing LED lights, is appropriate, cool or attractive?
Perhaps people think this kind of lighting keeps them safe, but I consider it noise pollution. I have neighbors who installed blindingly bright white LED lights (like car headlights) behind their house last month, I suppose so their surveillance cameras will get better color videos. They come on now and then for a few minutes (I suppose when a bug walks past or something). I can’t stand them. They light up my living room and bedroom walls. I’m just glad they aren’t on all the time. Some people buy outdoor lighting without considering that others may not want to see up their homes lighted up—especially with tacky multi-colored lights.

Default I like them

A next door neighbor has them and they look very nice. They are not on full brightness, and are displaying nightly in tasteful colors/sequences. We have been thinking of getting them as well.

This is also not my cup of tea, but if the choice is living in a Stepford Wives community or giving someone the freedom within reason to express oneself, I choose freedom.

These lights actually make a lot of sense. They are completely controllable, brightness, color, activity, time and date. We have these on our "full time home". There is no reason for them to be tacky or distracting unless that's what you are going for. 99% of the time we have ours on a dim white from sundown to midnight - much better than a porch light or cheap solar landscape lights.

There in lies the entire problem.

"Tasteful colors"?

Some folks think Lime Green cars are "tasteful". I'm sure someone thinks Stevie Wonder is a spiffy dresser.

This is The Villages. The Developer's sense of "taste" is what rules, as it should be. If the Developer thought carnival lights were "tasteful", he would have installed them on every home ... . & gone broke, in 6 months.

If you wanted to exercise your version of "tasteful", you shouldn't have bought in a Deed Restricted Community, where "tasteful" was already defined by the Developer.

Very tacky. Should not be permitted except at Christmas holiday time.

It has spread. There are several homes in our southern veranda neighborhood, and throughout our village with them. They change colors for various holidays throughout the year. You can’t even tell they’re there during the day. They don’t bother us, and we even considered them just for Christmas and a couple other major holidays but we found out they aren’t very reliable, and if they do die the only way to replace them under warranty is to send them back to the manufacturer. After spending upwards of a grand or two for installation that would be crazy because they’d need to be reinstalled again, so instead we put color changing bulbs in our outdoor light fixtures. We can easily change the bulbs ourselves if one burns out, plus they’re very subtle at night. They can all sync together or be individually controlled (remote control or app on phone), and can be set for different holidays or just soft/warm white or whatever color you want, or soft flickering like a flame. They can be set on a timer so we have ours shut off at 10pm except for the lantern on the post which of course has the electric eye and is on all night. Right now we have them on the Spring/Easter setting, which rotates through several colors you’d see in Spring flowers. We love them and so do our neighbors.

Just what I need; more stuff to buy to keep up with the Jone's. And I thought painted driveways and garage floors was extravagant.
