Default Looking for examples of side yard birdcage cement pool privacy walls

Hi All,

I'm going to be building a pool and have seen homes with birdcages that have a portion of cement walls on the sides for privacy and a sound barrier.

I'm hoping to do cement on the side walls of my pool birdcage, and the regular screening on the back wall, so that I have privacy and a sound barrier from neighbors and can still enjoy the view behind my house.

Looking for some of examples. Thanks!

I would suggest asking the birdcage vendors for photos of their work will privacy walls. You also have at least 2 other much less expensive options for privacy. You can get a light colored (typically white) screening that will provide some privacy, or you can get what I believe is called 'Florida glass' screening. This is a waterproof screen material this will let light through, but you cannot see through it. I still have about 75% of a roll from Lowes when I installed this in 3 or 4 panels to prevent dirt from getting into the enclosure during heavy rain.

Podocarpus hedges work well as a privacy barrier for us.

I would check with your pool vendor since the walls will require footings to keep them from blowing down in a strong wind. Pouring the deck and footings at the same time will simplify the construction. In a strong storm I hope my screens give way and not the Al frame.

Do the shrubs help with sound as well? I'm trying to cut back on sound and privacy. Thanks!

Not really, maybe only a slight amount. We are lucky that our neighbors on both sides are rarely outside in their birdcages/lanais, but that could obviously change. Fortunately, no one is behind us as we border a wildlife preserve.

I would't do a cement wall, the sun will reflect off the wall and make your lanai even hotter.

Keep in mind if you do a cement wall you are blocking air flow and this would create your room to get hotter than normal. IMO not a good idea

Nice setup. Who makes that umbrella sunshade and where did you get it?

We have 6 foot walls around 3 sides of the pool. Posts about lanai being hotter or restricting airflow are inaccurate...at least we haven't experienced that. My only regret is that we didn't build a half wall on the 4th side....

That looks like an awesome umbrella. I am going to immediately order one. Maybe two. Thanks for posting the picture of your personal oasis!
