Great white shark trainer...alligator walker...frequency grease inspector...

You are a lawyer...perhaps someone can make a viable suggestion...but I'd think you probably already have some ideas...perhaps put those out there and see if anyone has input on those ideas as they may have already done them.

I think you might want to find another lawyer to discuss this with.

Pick something you would enjoy doing that will pay enough to meet your needs. Taxes are boring but pays well

Sell reverse mortgages (just kidding).

Back in the 1970s when I was a member of the NY bar I looked into moving to FL. What I found was the local bar jealously guarded its turf, making it very difficult to obtain a FL license to practice. It did not want attorneys licensed in other states retiring to FL and writing wills and trusts on the cheap or otherwise for friends and acquaintances. Maybe that has changed but I doubt it.

I realize you are requesting career change ideas. Why not take the Strong-Campbell Interest Inventory test? It would give you an idea of what may interest you. Strong Interest Inventory I took it many years ago and developed an avocation I love that changed my life!

Truth based on experience with attorneys and our legal system, I have a low opinion of both.

In terms of protecting their turf, you could say that about any field.

As far as career change, I seem to recall Col Sanders of chicken fame started at 80 something. Personally I am thankful that I worked hard and saved hard for 45 years.
I am too old, my back is shot and I do not need or want a job at Wallmart.

Writing and teaching come to mind.
You may not be able to teach law or tax classes in Florida but perhaps you could find a NY university that would let you teach online.

If you don't need a lot of money, you could try something new that you are interested in as a few above have suggested. I'm in IT and thought I might like to work part-time cooking in a restaurant when I retire. Maybe even go to culinary school first to officially become a chef which doesn't take too long. I thought about teaching as well, which I have already done for short spurts already. And have started a novel about 78 times.

Don't forget to have fun when you get down here.

Another thing to consider is if you switch careers, how long would you have to work to make enough money to fully retire vs staying in New York another year or two in a presumably higher paying job. For me I would probably have to work at least five to seven years in a new career to make up for working another year at my current salary. If I drop down to Walmart greeter or fast food, probably eight to ten years...No Thanks!

Most of the restaurants are looking for cooks and servers. Many other retail stores are looking for employees to fill many positions also.

Default Lawyer Joke

Two good friends die in a car accident and when they get to the pearly gates, they are incorrectly sent to hell. God gets word of this and approaches Satan and demands their return. Satan refuses and states, "once here, they are mine and will stay." God says, "listen buddy, don't fool with me as I will sue you." Satan responds, "yea right, and where are you gonna find a lawyer."
