Default Looking to Volunteer

I'm finding that I have a lot of time on my hands recently and think that volunteering is a good way to spend my time. I can't sew and I'm not crafty, so that leaves out things like Operation shoebox. Any ideas? I have a legal background. Thanks.

texasfal:

Actually, from what I know about Operation Shoebox, they can always use folks to help assemble the gazillion stockings (used to do shoeboxes, but they're harder/costlier to ship) they send out.

Best beginning source, I think, to find some ideas: the Daily Sun publishes an article every Monday as the lead story to the Lifestyles section ("D"), which is accompanied by a long list of opportunities and contacts.

Enjoy!

There is always the Villages Regional Hospital (TVRH) which has an active volunteer program: http://www.leesburgregional.org/volunteer.htm

Texasfal,

Do you enjoy working with animals? Local animal shelters are always in desperate need of all kinds of help. It is amazing how much better you feel after spending a couple hours with our furry friends. And they appreciate your love and kindness so much. Its truly a win win situation.

If you like horses, I believe the Horse N Around Club also has volunteer opportunities. I am planning to pursue that.

Thumbs up Many

Yes Bare,
Horse"N"Around -is a great club if you like horses. You can volunteer for a reading program with a black horse that goes to schools(if the funds are there). We buy every little one his/her own book of the "Black Stallion".
There is a theraputic riding program for handicapped children that we help lead the horses or walk along side to make sure the riders don't fall off. We also help with events at the Carriage Museum and at the Florida Horse Park.
If you like horses ...this is a nice club. We also go on rides, field trips, have speakers at our meetings and of course picnic and party!! The president of the club has his own small ranch just outside the Villages.

Consider the St. Teresa's soup kitchen and social outreach programs just up the road in Bellevue. They regularly assist far too many people with all kinds of need. And their valiant work is widely respected by other congregations which sent them funds and volunteer help. I'd imagine someone with your background might be able to offer very valuable assistance.

I've never been around horses which is weird since I'm from Texas. My best friend gives communion at St. Teresa's so I should look in that. You can only play so much bad golf, right?
