I will pay out-of-pocket to the contractor of my choice, and I will decide when to replace rather than to repair something, not a warranty company. In case you haven't noticed, I hate extended warranties and will not buy them. Period.
I agree with you on extended warranties. This is not an extended warranty. With Sunshine at least, you are purchasing a contract that they will cover any labor costs for 10 years. Same technicians, same response times, etc. as if you paid out of pocket. I read all the fine print on the contract. This may not be the case with other HVAC providers.

Do some research. The new Tranes are a PIA, for the reason I mentioned ... proprietary systems.

Most building management systems have problems working with Tranes and on large buildings, you almost have no choice but to contract the Building Management functions to an Authorized Trane Dealer & their service. Most building management systems can't operate Trane's VAV's ... even on older Tranes.

There's nothing wrong with their quality and their basic residential systems seem fine, they become problematic, as you move into larger and more sophisticated systems.

The biggest aggravation, is the communication/control architecture with the newer Trane systems. They communicate digitally, rather than on a standard, 24v system that says "on" or "off".

You can't even use a standard Nest/Google Thermostat with the new Trane systems.
There is nothing wrong with a communicating system. Yes you can't use a standard Nest/Google or Ecobee thermostat. Did you know many Carrier systems installed in our homes here in the Villages had communicating digital thermostats? The reason for these newer digital systems vs the old analogue On/Off systems is the different components of the system need to talk to each other for maximum operational efficienty. On my system when there is a fault, it pops up on my thermostat for the tech to read. No more endless troubleshooting and guessing what's wrong. Just the future of things to come in this industry. I can tell you I had a Nest and an Ecobee thermostat on my original system and while they worked well, they were garbage compared to the Carrier Infinity thermostat I have now. And yes, the Carrier thermostat is expensive but it's covered for 10 years and if you have good home surge protection, you shouldn't have an issue.

Funny most has the same China parts on inside. My new carrier was loaded with Chinese parts. My house original trane lasted over 23 years. I highly doubt anything made now days will last that long. But, I will maybe see with new carrier? If I here or live that long?

What's cool is with my Carrier Infinity Greenspeed system, I can use the thermostat to see sub-cooling and superheat and all kinds of readings that the tech normally gets by connecting a set of gauges and temperature probes. You have to educate yourself on all the readings but once done, I can see how my system is performing any time.

Did you know that none of what you mention, was done to benefit the consumer?

It's a lot like Wifi connected faucets in your house. "Wow, that's amazing ... I have the latest & the greatest. I turn my water off from my iPhone".

All your "energy efficiency" built into your complicated HVAC system, won't save you a dollar, but will continue to insure the profitability of Carrier and the lobbyists who spend billions in Congress, to have the "energy efficiency" regulations passed.

I have a 43 year old HVAC unit in one of my condos in Boston. Runs like a champ. I could replace it for $8,000 and save $3/month in energy costs, but I'm going to wait.

Well I was waiting for someone to come here and say they have a very old system working like yours still. I think the last guy said his system lasted 35 years so you have him beat.

I don't have the time to go into it but I'm definetly saving significant amount in electric every month and that coupled with the much better comfort in temperature and humidity in my home made it worth the cost to upgrade when I did, for me. Other's may not agree.

In your case, you can't compare a system in Boston to one in Florida. Totally ridiculous.

There are folks that think Kia's are great automobiles and those who think Mercedes are junk. Everyone's entitled to an opinion, based on their experience.

I had 4 large AC firms come out to review their offerings. After I chose DeSantis and Trane, one of the 3 texted me back. Saying, “you’ll be sorry, Trane has many issues, that’s why TV doesn’t use them”. Hmm, my thought was, very unprofessional and based on what??? Love our Trane.

I think the problem is each HVAC company has their own favorite manufacture they like to use and have a relationship with. As an example, Sunshine has a close relationship with Carrier. So, they get good pricing, and parts and systems and support are readily available to them. Other smaller companies like ACIQ, others like Bosch. When I was in NY, my HVAC company was close with American Standard. So, while one company might not like Trane, others love the brand. You probably can't go wrong with any "premium" brand. Just some charge more than others due to their advertising. The most important part after you choose the equipment is the install. You want a company that's going to do the "right job" and stand behind it for years to come.

The Opinion Epidemic

We live in an era where everyone seems compelled to broadcast their thoughts on everything, from geopolitics to their neighbour’s garden fence. Social media platforms have created an endless echo chamber where opinions multiply like rabbits, each one convinced of its own profound importance. Meta’s own research shows that posts containing strong opinions but no supporting evidence receive 42% more engagement than factual, evidence-based content—a statistic that tells us everything about why our discourse has become so untethered from reality.
I think the only reliable opinions are from those who actually have owned a specific manufacturers HVAC system and can report on their specific experience. That's as factual as you can get.

Thanks for sharing, I’ve had very good personal experience with both Trane and American Standard HVAC systems!

American Standard and Trane are the same Air Conditioners, that come from the same exact assembly line.

And just wanted to mention, when I lived in NY in a town home community of 150 homes, we all had American Standard equipment and being on the HOA Board, I wasn't aware of any major failures over the 20 years I lived there. Once we had a lightning strike that damaged the controller in the homes nearby but that was about it.

Got the estimates and decided to go with DeSantis. Offered a Carrier or Trane system. 4 ton with a variable speed blower. Both at same price (10,495 total). Decided to go with Trane.

The system was installed 2 weeks ago. Took about 6 hours. Another tech came out a week ago to fine tune the system. Amazing about all the detailed settings to get the best performance. The Trane thermostat is great and now linked to their site for access to the system and settings.

It is so quiet. Startup and running of the outside compressor is so much better than the Carrier. And the unit is beautiful, so well made. The interior blower system, same, so quiet with variable speed blower. Again high quality.

The performance is perfect. Our humidity level in the winter used to be 55%. It’s now held at 35-40%; can really feel the difference in the house. We typically keep the temp at 78. Now we have to raise it at times to 79-80, as it feels too cool- really.

Could not be happier with our investment. If you’re in the market for a new A/C system, recommend that you put DeSantis and Trane on your list. Larry Austin was our Rep, excellent. BTW I am not associated with them at all, simply an overjoyed customer.
The system we have is Carrier. On a new build, the warranty is 10 year parts and 5 year labor. We are required to have annual maintenance to keep the warranty in effect.
