Are you implying that if someone served six months they should get the discount? That's a bit elitist to me, thinking that a short timer service should receive the same benefits as someone who served enough years to retire, was wounded or disabled due to service and is qualified for benefits. I served six years and have never put my service on the same plane as those who sacrificed, time, family and health. All Vets are not the same.

Actually I think Lowes would have honored my DD-214 for appliance but they wouldn't provide multiple discounts. So if the appliance was on sale I was given the choice of the sale price or the Vet Discount. The sale price was better.

Who carries their DD Form 214 in there wallet or purse everyday? No one. Home Depot has the rules posted in CA right next to the cashiers with what is excepted and on what days. DD form 214's are to easy to make copies not original certified copies and they would hold up the lines while the cashier would have to check the names and discharge statis of each one.

Lowes, Home Depot or any company has the right to grant PRIVLAGES to anyone they wish. They get to establish the rules that these PRIVLAGES will be granted.

Just like some companies say a senior discount starts at age (50). Others at age (55). Some business offer discounts to women only on Wednesdays. If you owned a business you might offer different discounts. People under a senior discount age limit do not complain, so you need to move on.

IF you have a complaint with the VA and their procedures and policies then contact your government rep and and ask for a change to the policy.

IF you do not agree with someones policies, Do not shop there! MOVE ON!

Totally untrue and unfair to all who have served. A veteran is a veteran. Any one who enlisted or was drafted and received an honorable discharge during time of war did so unselfishly and with honor. The American Legion does not discriminate why should you. Just because a veteran hasn't earned a Purple Heart doesn't mean he hasn't bled.

But just because we served doesn't mean we are entitled to discounts from Corporations. As a member of the American Legion for many years I have never heard a Vet say they were "entitled" to anything more than what they signed up for. Whatever a Corporation decides to extend should be considered a recognition and appreciation, not something to be criticized.

Maybe its a question of semantics, but Lowes does not offer a Veterans discount - they offer a Military Discount that is graciously extended to Retired Military and to those veterans who qualify for VA benefits. Those of us who served, and who are now retired from other industries that don't fit into those categories, can still get a discount on certain holidays. In fact, Memorial Day weekend is one of those, so get your DD214 out of your safety deposit box and take it shopping with you. It may be poorly worded, but I hate to see Lowe's get a bad rap for trying to do the right thing. The policy is listed below:
