I am staying at home as well. It turns out a friend of mine likely contracted the Chinese virus up in Washington State over Thanksgiving. She was up visiting her grandchildren and was very sick for several weeks. Some of the children even developed pneumonia. At the time she thought it was the worst flu of her life as there was little or nothing yet in the news about the virus. But by hindsight she realizes it could have been the Wuhan virus. That part of WA is home to many Chinese residents and frequent visitors from China so that is quite possible.

I don't think you quite get it. We ALL have to worry about these people that gather. Those gathering people will be walking the aisles in grocery stores, standing on lines at pharmacies, using gas pumps, standing on line for food pick up among other things. Understand? They put us all at risk.

YOU do not have an accurate understanding of transmission of the virus -- hello -- gathering as long as social distance is maintained does not spread the virus -- no MORE SO THAN GOLF DOES -- IT IS ALSO A SOCIAL GATHERING...

Awww you must not have cable, there are tons of free movies on, plus free books to read. Got to be better than checking on what others are doing

MIT sneeze study: New research shows sneezes can travel up to 200 feet. And that does NOT include a tailwind. Now that's nothing to sneeze at. And you are aware I am sure that a SNEEZE does carry the virus.

that would have to take in account that (1) the person had the virus (2) the droplets from a sneeze would have to land in the vicinity of your face (()+ you would have to inhale the droplets or touch your face -- I think that all of the above is in the small are of possibility -- not in the realm of probability -- paranoid thinking == just thinking the worst not really likely

AND, in addition, the inoculum size you encounter is sufficient to cause infection AND the viral particles are still viable. So yes, POSSIBLE, but so is the possibility that a supernova a few dozen light years away is about to incinerate us.

Yes, I do understand how this virus is transmitted. I listen to Dr. Faucci and Dr. Birx. I was referring to the folks who are not following social distancing guidelines who are gathering. I have seen it. I have been bumped from behind in grocery store. Some folks just do not get the concept of social distancing.

Example: I was on line as folks were filing into Publix one morning when the store first opened. I was maintaining the 6 feet social distancing. Everyone else was "gathering" together and could not get into the store fast enough. Sure enough, two men cut in front of me because I had left 6 feet between me and the person in front of me. See what I mean?

This quotes MIT saying 8 meters, or approximately 26 feet

YOU BETTER STAY IN YOUR HOUSE -- you do your thing -- you will probably never be able to understand that a drop in the breeze will not give you the virus

I have a cane and when someone gets in my space I raise it parallel to the ground and advise them to back off (politely). A cane at arms length approximates 6 feet.

Going to any establishment when they first open in TV is nothing short of a mindless herd pressing to get in first and by all means leave no space at all for anybody to get in.....virus or not!

Going one hour later no problem.

I advise against that, it could be considered brandishing a weapon if the person says they were intimidated and felt threatened. A cane can be considered a bludgeon. Do it to the wrong person and you might regret it, there some short fused people in this world.

That doesn't include a tailwind or the speed of the cart or what you had for dinner. That being said, it's still more than 6' and more than 2 golf carts riding 6' behind each other

Of course the chances are slim to none ... but it was partially intended to be tongue in cheek and partially intended to make the point that like the 100 year pandemic we are now in, anything can happen that can change your life forever.

Oh, here is the actual MIT study from their news magazine. Sneezing produces complex fluid cascade, not a simple spray | MIT News Doesn't mention any specific distance though just 200x further than previously thought to be.
