Default CenturyLink Home Phone Trouble

ET Phone Home, ET Phone Home. Having problem with our home phone. CenturyLink/Embarq provider. No dial tone, allot of noise sounding like a fax being sent out. Calling into the home, can hear person talking very clearly, person at the home hears nothing. Brought in known working phone, hooked up, same noise. Removed line filter, no change. Unplugged modem, router, no change. Trying to avoid having a service call. Just to say hello, what's the problem, that will be $85. Checking with TOTV anyone with similar problem and resolve? Thank You

Scroll, we have been very happy for the past 4 yrs with Century Link, previously Embarq phone service since 10/07. We switched to their triple (Phone, Dish & Internet) in 11/08. The problem that occurred was outside the home (their problem) when a couple of days prior they hooked up Prism TV service for neighbors that interfered with our phone service. They resolved the problem, no charge to us and we have not had any other problems since. We are very happy with Century Link and the services they provide.

Try going outside your home and open the gray phone box, unplug the phone line where it enters your home. Plug in your phone and see if it works. If it does, the problem is your home's inside wiring. If it doesn't, the problem is outside you home (i.e the CenturyLink connection).

Default telephone line

Above post is correct. Go to the gray box. There is a modular jack you can hook your phone to. If you are hearing others on line it probably is a cross in the cable pair to your house. Cordless phones will do that also. There should be no charge to test to the DMARC (grey box) If there is trouble inside they will offer to fix...There will be a charge then if you ask them to fix. Call repair service and let them know what you found. PM me if you are still having trouble. I'm a CL employee from Iowa.
