Default Slippery Garage Floor

Bought a house with with a garage floor finish that looks good but was told it's slippery when wet. I see posts for people to avoid finishes that can be slippery but nothing about what to do with a floor that's already been finished. Suggestions to prevent future fall?

I would go to Sherwin Willaims and ask if they have a suitable CLEAR coating that can be applied with an additive like SHARK GRIP to give you a not slip surface, if you are looking to DIY. If you want this done by a company, I would contact driveway painting contractors, we have used Driveways by Jay (Hometown Services) and found his work to be very good. I do not know if he does overcoating.

Have you actually found the floor to be "slippery when wet"?

If not, it may already have and additive to prevent that problem...

Um, who told you it would be “slippery when wet” . I would wet it and get that person to try it out! By the way Jon Bon is dead to me!

Just bought a house. That is public information. You will be shocked at all the people who will contact you. Has one of the guys stopped by YET, he just happens to have a palm and can make you a great deal? Or painters, gardeners, insurance etc.

Epoxy coated garage floor are popular. Actually the epoxy is overcoated with a clear coat, that is not epoxy as epoxy yellows. I think it is polypropylene so your epoxy floor is only as durable as the top polypropylene. Some people elect to add a grit to the final coat to make it less slippery when wet. We do not have that. I expect that makes it easier to clean the floor.

I would just know it can be slippery when wet. Never had a problem. Putting down another clear coat with the grit may be possible the plastic paints must be compatible or all kinds of strange things can happen. The floor will need to be spotless or you will be sealing in any dirt, stains etc.

Is in worth doing?

As someone that just recently went through a slip and fall accident, YES you want the garage floor to be non-slip.
