Many of us will be glad to.

Nefarious. Great word. You don't hear that one very often!

One could wonder was this person casing my house? And about a note on the car, if one was concerned that the car didn't belong there I would call community watch, not leave a note, after all we have been warned to look out for strange cars parked in our neighborhoods.

Yes I think it's nice that a walker is picking up trash. But you would scare the CRAP out of my parents if you left a note telling them something was wrong with the house. They would think you are trying to sell them something or worse try to get into their house. Again we have been put on alert for odd thing in our community.

That being said your note would cause my mother to call me upset and worried, I would then have to call my home watch to figure out if this note is someone being nice or that person we are being warned about.

Sorry mr walker if you don't know the people you are leaving notes for I am not in agreement that notes are for the good of everyone.
I agree with you. And I tend to think the OP's note leaver is more of a nosy busybody than someone trying to help his neighbors.

You can call community watch about the lamp post light as well as the car in the street. No need to be intrusive. And a note under the newspaper is just downright creepy.

Ah, the happy posts regarding a man helping out his neighbors in "Florida's Friendliest Hometown": "nosy busybody", "stay off mine untill invited", or "you might get shot".

Harold Schwartz's ashes must be spinning around at Spanish Springs over comments like those.

I think your comments are a little off. Remember, "if you see something, say something." Just read the online news to understand the background. This is a wonderful place, but being aware of your surroundings and what is going on is a good thing.

I agree with you completely. I used to come on this site TOTV quite a bit....not so much lately.

It's difficult reading the nasty comments.

The Villages is changing. It's not so friendly anymore.

Here's someone who is trying to be neighborly, and all he gets is....stay off my property. How sad.

I'm on the fence. I think it is great that the walker is picking up trash. I think it is nice if he's looking out for his nearby neighbors as far as anything suspicious. I'm on the fence about the notes under the paper.

I can see where if someone didn't know who was doing it, it might be a bit creepy, especially if you were a single woman. They could be wondering who is watching my house this closely and why?

Someone mentioned that a walker or someone would bring their paper up to the door. I have a glass door and I would freak out if I looked up and saw someone standing at my door. Or if it was early in the morning and we were still sleeping, it would make my dog bark and that would wake me up and that would make me cranky. Now, if I am out of town or away and one of my neighbors that I know, throws the paper up to the door, I think that's fabulous.

I am also mystified that someone would take the time, have the desire, as well as a paper supply, writing instruments and light bulbs during these treks to enable them to do all of this. Mind-boggling.

I noticed the number of conversations and posts in TOTV seems to be way down. People may be tired of this kind of complaining (seems like he is a good Samaritan to me.) Nothing upbeat to discuss... or everything has already been said.

Anyways it seems like there is a lot of suspicions and fear even in the "bubble." Not quite the perfect utopia.

... from the few visits to my house it seems like I will have nice neighbors..doesn't get any better than that!

Don't count on it. It seems a whole new bunch of not terribly friendly folks.

I noticed a lamp post out one morning and later informed my neighbor and told her that I would be happy to replace it if she wished. She responded that she slept in the bedroom in the front and the light bothered her at night. She was glad that the light was out.

Another incident of a light out across the street where a neighbor was a snowbird. I mentioned it to the guy that takes care of it when he is away and he told me that the sensor was out and he was going to replace it. It had a short in it that was causing the circuit breaker to shut off the power in the garage.

I try to be a good neighbor and assist those that want it, but I ask first. Sometimes there are good reasons for circumstances that draw our attention.

I have no qualms with the person that has good intentions on here, but I also understand some that are cautious. Some folks have migrated here from areas of the country that are not as safe. Don't be hurt if some folks are suspicious of good intentions.

Dear Gerryann,
Thank you for your concern. I want you to know that I have walked for over 6 years daily, have received hundreds of "thank you", thank you notes and 1 complaint. I posted this thread in response to comments made on a thread about the complaint. Since I posted this, I have received private messages of encouragement. I love the Villages and it is still a friendly place to live. Sadly, there are people who are angry or live in fear and will not be happy no matter where they live. I encourage you to do an random act of kindness and you will see how friendly the Villagers still are.

Chances are this person is a dream come true. I think living by the guidance of ones religion is wonderful and I think I'm jealous to some extent that the walker take's their religious teaching to a practical hands on level that's amazing. It is my life experience based on where I have lived that a nice situation like this will ultimately turn out bad by the walker being hurt by a person who has had a bad experience with someone who think's they are being stalked. Some of the people you intend to help may be as stable as Jello. The same religious experience that the walker is executing to do good must also let them know that they are not to make anyone else uncomfortable. Clearly others are uncomfortable. I love your intention and if it was not carried out by the cover darkness or a knock on the door it may be more acceptable. I'm with RickeyD stay off personal property and use your calling to do good by volunteering your service's at a place thats in need of your kindness. Times have changed and will continue to change we must deal with it. Random acts of kindness do not have to be executed in a stealth mode.

Nice post Nucky and, IMHO, possibly the best post on this thread. I live in a home with a lot of glass and if I saw someone in my yard in the dark I would probably freak out and call 911. I also liked another poster's thoughts on how to approach someone whose light was out. Please do not replace my light, but I would be really pleased to be told that my light is out. In my little neighborhood we all take care of one another, but we do not overstep the boundaries.
