Here is a pic of my house in Pa with a metal roof. Wind rated at 110 mph. I will be asking if I can do the same at the house in TV.

It's a fallacy that metal roofs attract lightning. Lightning goes to the highest and nearest point. As a matter of fact, if lightning does happen to strike a metal roof the energy is dispersed instead of making a hole in the roof as it would on a shingle roof.

Not true. If properly installed they survive hurricanes better than shingle roofs. That's why you see them used in Key West.

I wouldn't use a black color in Florida though.

Flat tile roofs offer more protection that s-shape or barrel tile styles but the roof's pitch is probably even more important that the shape of the tile.

But my question was, why paid extra for a metal roof if it has the same 15 year rule like the asphalt roofs do.[/QUOTE]
There is no requirement to replace your roof at 15 years. Mine is original asphalt roof built in 04 and insured with Tower Hill. |

The shingles were applied properly and 6 nailed as well as tabbed with cement as we knew how bad the conditions were going to be. First year we had 3 major blowoffs of multiple shingles. Properly installed a metal roof over and not one problem since. During hurricane Fiona that caused massive damage in our area almost everyone in the area had lost shingles. Our metal roof was untouched. Shingles will withstand 95-115 mph winds where metal can exceed 200 mph. |

2. Telsa and metal roofs may be permitted but architectural approval is required.

There are new federal laws (and maybe State) governing roof materials.
