How could you think that was an ad? All it was is the latest information about the place everyone says they love. It was a link to the Village newsletter that gets sent out to thousands of potential buyers including myself. The link was helpful for anyone that did not receive it. Many people on this forum are looking for information about TV. This was to help them.

I thought it was very informative and would be appreciated my many people who viewed the forum and were considering a purchase. Put it back on and I’ll send you 10 bucks towards the ad fee since you think it WAS an ad.

Okay, it wasn't an ad -- it was a copy of an ad with a direct link to the ad itself. Sheesh -- let's get lost in a definition.

If the moderators want to pull a post because someone used purple ink and one of them hates purple, I say that is their right (and I promise to not use purple ink!). The nice thing is I know they won't. If they pull something it is not because they disagree with the post but because they feel there is something truly "wrong" about the post. Otherwise, I think several previous posts would have been yanked 10 seconds after they were submitted. If they wanted to censor, it is pretty easy to set up a forum so that all posts are previewed by a moderator before they are approved for posting (a lot of work but very doable).

We have the right to disagree and even disapprove of an action taken by anyone here. That doesn't mean we have to resort to the 5-year-old is/is not mentality or start calling each other names or generally belittling another because their views are not your views.

Personally, I truly appreciate what Tony, Darrell and Jan have done for us. This is a great forum and I've learned a lot from it and, hopefully, will be able to make friends because of it.

And now for the test ... I said I wouldn't use purple, but didn't say a word about lime green or orange ;D

I absolutely hate lime green.
I absolutely love orange.

You got me. I can't pull the green and save the orange.

This site is own by the people who set it up and keep it running, that said, this is not a public forum. The administrators (owners) allow us to visit and expose our opinions or exchange information with each other. It is their priviledge to administer the site any way they see fit, if any one does not like the way it is run, then they should not visit it.

Tony - I think it is fine that the admins pull some coin from the operation.

I was just confused because i thought i had read that the admins were a volunteer group.

I personally think it is mean-spirited for anyone to criticize the motives, decisions or great work of the site hosts. Most of us are totally enjoying the site and you've made it possible for us at no cost!

Tony, re-reading the post I previously made, I can understand your taking offense. I apologize for the way I stated things in that post. I did not and do not intend to offend anyone.

For clarification, however, can you please educate me on what philosophical difference you see in posting a furntiure giveaway incentive vs a price decrease incentive? Or, is the difference merely that as things and time have evolved, TV Administrators are having policies evolve with further experience?

Sorry, I like purple.

Mick,

Thanks for your thoughts and for being so understanding of my hasty post. I dared not remove it even though I had second thoughts about it. ;D If I had removed it, I suspect somebody would have been at the hardware store tomorrow shopping for nails and wood to make the cross.

The philosophical difference? I don't think it goes that deeply. It was a gut reaction to seeing a post that just rang of overt commercialism to these jaded eyes. I spent a ton of years as a newspaper editor. I had to watch out for axes being ground, and I developed a super-sensitivity for apparent sub rosa motives.

I made the decision to delete the thread in about 0.378 seconds. I don't want to be combative, but knowing myself the way I do I think I would probably make the same decision again, but geez, folks, look at it from my perspective.

Is this horse dead yet? I hope not. If anybody has more to say, please say it, don't let it fester, and, please, don't hold my action against the other partners. Darrel and Jan have hundreds of hours into making this forum go. I would not be surprised if their hours total into the thousands. All three of us want this to go and we want to keep it free of charge to the Villagers. You people need and deserve a place where you can discuss The Villages freely. And we would like to support it with advertising.

What's my axe to grind? I enjoy moderating here, with the help of Jan and Darrel, but I would like to see my time be rewarded. That is why the post in question banged so loudly on my cynical gong.

Among the partners we have the sense that if we have to much pablum, you will all tire of it and leave. Guess which partner said that. ??? It wasn't me, but I would be happy to take credit for it.
