I recently received my bill from Comcast for Swimdawg South. I live in St. James and try to get to my home in TV for a week a month. My bill seems very high compared to what I have in Swimdawg North where I have Time Warner. When I closed on my home in St. James in August 2011, the options were very limited for the area near 466A.
Since I am only in TV for a week/month, I really don't want to go thru the trouble of moving furniture and setting up cable, etc. and then discontinuing it after a week. I come for a week of "fun in the sun"....not work! ![]() I just wonder if any of you near 466A might give me advice as what to do. Thanks! ![]() Last edited by swimdawg; 11-17-2013 at 10:48 AM. |

Do you rent out the TV home? IOW, will you have renters that expect certain services?

I'm not very talented at hooking things up.....but I would like cable/Internet service while I'm there for a week a month. I was wondering if there are new services that aren't quite so expensive as Comcast is? |

If you are lucky enough to have two competing cable TV providers in your area, you might be able to switch providers and get a lower competitive rate for a year. But the new service provider will likely insist on wrapping you up in a multi-year commitment where the rate rises after 12 months.
Sometimes just the threat of switching will cause the existing service provider to give a customer a special rate if they commit to a year of service. We have two cable companies in our area. My experience has been that my existing cable provider does not offer a special rate unless I am calling complaining... ready to cancel service. They do it as a last ditch effort to conserve the business. All of them will try like the devil to sell the entire bundle of services (Cable, Internet, and Phone) because that is how they make the big profits. But if you hang tough in the negotiation and insist you need to reduce your bill, you can probably get a good rate for the two services bundled (internet and cable TV). Just be calm and play the "broken record"... I need to reduce my bill! |

Brighthouse is only south of 466A at present. Not in St. James.

Have you tried a Slingbox. This is a gadget attached to your TV box and your internet at home.
You can then connect to your TV on any PC while connected to the internet. Your computer can then connect to a TV if required I record the programs I want to watch and then catch up with them during any breaks in the hectic Villages lifestyle Not tried HD progs - found connection gives good picture/sound with 90+% reliability Pete |
