Default Is auto-correct...

...getting more intrusive on this website, or are people just getting lazier about checking their spelling before posting?

Most of the stuff posted here seems pretty well-written, if somewhat informal.

One of my peeves though is the use of homophones. When I see them I usually conclude one of two things: that the writer is a millennial and thus conditioned by social media to use them, or that he or she is a lazy person over 40.

spell check is a pain in the azz! wants formal sentence structure and doesn't like humor in homophones, etc, This location doesn't / shouldn't have any requirement for schooling or correcting to professional level writing. We are all / almost retired and having fun while the fun lasts.

I couldn't care less about perfect spelling or punctuation or grammah.

My iPad or IPhone changes words spelling and sometimes makes it unreadable, either by typing or voice. No idea why, but I’d I don’t reread carefully I miss their change, than have to edit.

Sometimes the words make no sense, and I know it’s not what I type. My laptop isn’t Apple so have zero issues with changing of words or spelling. I blame Apple

Spelling is a pet peeve. I will admit auto correct blows at times but like anything else...check your post before you hit reply. I remember , casually, correcting someone’s spelling several months ago on a thread....and one of ToTV finest Pat Boone imitators...accused me of ADA insensitivity!

I have my spell-checker disabled on all my applications and browsers. It's distracting. I misspell things once in awhile. Not often though.

I hate the spell check on my iPhone.

I can promise you, I have never meant to type the word "Ducking"...

You may be joking, but it's the first thing I think of. There are a few here that give me a headache trying to decipher what they are trying to say. I just assume they are uneducated. And if they are so uneducated that I can't figure out what they are trying to convey, then it wasn't worth deciphering anyway.

Several years ago there was a thread about auto correct. I still laugh about the woman who said she stopped texting her granddaughter after calling her a slut!

My spelling is perfect. But, every now and then, my tablet thinks it is time to show me that it has spellchecker. That's when things go wanky!
