The residents of Chitty Chatty wishing to turn left, now will have to turn right and almost immediately switch to the left lane in order to U-turn at the Fire Station.

This, IMO, is more dangerous than the existing condition by creating a potential hazard changing lanes, slowing to U-turn, and dealing with south-traveling motorists.

The offer was made by Sandalwood to give up the property for a roundabout, but it was declined.

So the cheap way - not the safe way - out was chosen, and the die was cast.

Time will tell if the hazardous condition is eliminated, or moved to another area of the Morse corridor.

There is a roundabout there.

People wanting to go SOUTH, coming out of Chitty Chatty, would indeed need to go north to a traffic light and turn around there, so they can then go south.

It's a minor inconvenience that solves a major problem.
The roundabout is not "a block" from the intersection. It's closer to a mile. (.7 to be exact)

Default Why Even Bother

Is anyone else in the, “Why even bother “ category? The U turns on that road we’re/are just as risky as crossing to go north or southbound. IMHO it is money that is wasted and only introduces a new set of problems.

Let's also note that the u turn location for southbound Chitty Chatty is at the FIRE STATION.
Furthermore, why can't the speed limit on Morse south of 44 be 35mph just like it is north of 44?

So what, it’s at a firehouse. Drivers should know how to deal with emergency vehicles if the need arises. The better question is why can’t the speed limit on Morse north of 44 (but south of 466) be 45 like it is south of 44

U turns are illegal in front of fire stations in the state of Florida.

Not at this one. There is a left-turn lane, and no sign indicating "no U-turns."

Default It’s the same as parking in front of a fire hydrant

It’s the same fine as parking in front of a fire hydrant. Anyone that advises someone to break the law should be reported. There is no sway or gray area in the state law. Perhaps a sign hasn’t been put up yet? Perhaps it’s just assumed everyone already knows this? There are fire hydrants that don’t have signs too, but park in front of one and see what happens.

Further, you are not permitted to impede fire or ambulance services in the state. A person stuck or pausing for the U turn could be doing just that.

What is the statute for that?

Post a quote from a statute that says waiting to make a left turn is the same as being parked when by a fire station..

Thanks! Oh, make sure these quotes show exemptions for anyone turning left to go INTO the fire station, since you claim that is not legal to do

It is probably also significant that this is an entrance into a business park and not exclusively a fire station. But first, I would like to know the Florida Statute that so clearly makes it illegal. It doesn’t appear to be 316.1515 Limitations on Turning Around.

FSS 316.1515 states no such thing. Please don’t post comments that contradict the law

"316.1515 Limitations on turning around.—The driver of any vehicle shall not turn the vehicle so as to proceed in the opposite direction upon any street unless such movement can be made in safety and without interfering with other traffic and unless such movement is not prohibited by posted traffic control signs. A violation of this section is a noncriminal traffic infraction, punishable as a moving violation as provided in chapter 318."

Does not say anything about fire stations. Try again, but read the statute before posting next time.
