Default The Morse widening project adds new dangers for walkers, joggers, and bike riders

Widening Morse by two feet on either side is an excellent idea. Adding a buffer between the car lane and the golf cart lane is horrible idea that will add new risks to some users of Morse.

Many residents along Morse cannot go anywhere with their car, their golf cart, their bicycle, or their legs without going onto Morse. I use all four methods of transportation on Morse so I speak from experience.

Cars and golf carts are the primary users of Morse, but they are not the only ones. Hikers, joggers, and bike riders use the golf cart lane. When golf carts encounter these other users they are almost always going faster so must pass. The golf cart drivers usually wait for the car lane to clear and then use part of it to pass the slower human traffic.

Adding two feet to the width of the golf cart lane will not make it as wide as a conventional multimodal trail. If a buffer (as is planned) is placed between the car lane and the golf cart lane this means the passing by golf carts must take place in a space too narrow to safely share with a bicycle or pedestrian. This two foot widening will make it safer for golf carts, but will make it less safe for pedestrians and bicycle riders.

Please - powers that be - rethink this project and drop the buffer zone.

I don't see how widening Morse is going to help golf carts safely merge and cross behind the gate. What is this "buffer zone" made of? A curb, a no travel striped pavement? If you are going to widen Morse just shift the car travel lanes to the west side of Morse and place the golf cart north and south bound lanes on the right side or east side of Morse up to Soledad drive. There are plenty of cross points before Soledad. No carts would have cross behind the gate and the widening wouldn't have to be a lot.

Just because you can walk or jog along Morse Boulevard alongside and with vehicles doesn’t make it a smart decision to do so.

We drive along Morse almost every day and have no problems.

I wouldn’t worry about it. All everyone ever does is argue, disagree, change their minds, and pi$$ and moan about the supposed problem at hand. It’s been going on for a very long time and nothing ever happens, and most likely nothing will ever happen. Too many constituents with conflicting interests, motivations, and potential financial responsibilities are involved. We have been negotiating the area for lots of years without any issues and wouldn’t be upset if things remain status quo. The only change I would support is mandating the gate attendants just north of 466 be required to make all automobile traffic manually open the gates.

A waste of money! Based on the accidents, the widening of the cart path will make no difference. Controlling speed - cars and carts - and driving safely will. Even a separate Multi model path isn't going to help carts from turning or veering into cars or being hit by crossing the road! But its not my money, so what the heck!

How do you control the speed of cars? They are able to go in excess of 100MPH. Whether they're ALLOWED to is irrelevant, because you're suggesting controlling the speed, not regulating it.

The only way you can control the speed of cars is to have police cars travel the roads, driving at exactly the speed limit, 24/7, on a circuitous route, to physically prevent everyone behind them from going any faster.
