jimbo, I've seen some of these led lights that don't work much better than a striking a match. Have you personally used the Northern tool solar light? Does it put out a decent amount of light and approx. how long does it last?

I paid a lot less as well. And knowing if something is moving around outside makes me feel much more comfortable.

Default Motion lights

Put in a solar unit above the lanai door - works great - cost about $69 from Lowes - they had several less expensive ones as well.

How long did it take you to do the installation of those 4 lights and I assume, some sort of switch configuration to control them?

Plus, how difficult was it... any high work on ladders?

What switch? They are motion activated and will go off after a period of time when there is no motion detected.

My house was already wired with a four lights outside, I simply took those down and wired in 4 motion lights. Took about 20 minutes each. I use the original switch if I do not want them to come on. If the house was not wired, I would have used solar motion lights. Only cause I don't like much crawling through the attic. Only two steps up on ladder.

We have some decent solar lights around the back and sides and they are the "stronger" variety. But not the blaring BIG wired ELECTRIC lights that we also have so when some nasty burglar or robber is slinking around they BLAZE on. I want them to think that they are center stage and popping sounds might follow and it is TIME to exit PRONTO, stage right..

Our lights are on switched lighting circuits with controlling switches at each door.

Ok. We are not thinking about the same problem.

I was thinking nothing existed. If new circuits had to be run and switches cut in (maybe 3-way or 4-way), boxes, maybe even a gfi breaker for an extra outside branch circuit if new capacity was need, etc... it would be a different story in terms of cost... material and labor!

4 exterior lights installed on new circuits, switched and zoned front/back for $600, sounded like a pretty good deal to me.

I didn't pay anywhere near $600 (quite a bit less). Money well spent.

Do you know if these are available in a lighter color than black? thanks.
