Default Motorcycle crash at Morse and CR466.

This afternoon, I drove west on CR466 where at the intersection with Morse a beaten up motorcycle laid near the median on the north side of Morse Blvd.

Anyone know what happened? This was around 3 p.m. There was a cop car there parking along CR466 with two Sumter County cops looking around.

Dang, I was at the Leesburg Honda this morning and am considering buying a Valkyrie. If one believes in omens, this may be some kind of Divine providence. Think I will wait and think it over.

I saw the accident scene also. It appeared that a mini-van made a left in front of the motorcycle. The van had a dent in the front right fender and a busted windshield on the passenger side. I would be surprised if the motorcyclist was not seriously hurt as the cycle was destroyed.

When my wife drove by the accident scene, the motorcycle rider was lying on the ground and they were getting ready to put him in an ambulance. He was wearing shorts and tennis shoes and was wearing a helmet. Hopefully he only got some bruises and scratches.

You are absolutely right, golfnut. At least he was wearing a helmet.

Default Rock and pitcher

I am a speech therapist working in an outpatient hospital setting and we have a saying (from Man of La Mancha) "Whether the rock hits the pitcher or the pitcher hits the rock - it's going to be bad for the pitcher." Does Florida have a helmet law? They keep trying to get the one here in Michigan repealed. If you have ever worked with anyone with a severe head injury from not doing something as simple as wearing a helmet (because it's HOT!!!) you would do as much as possible to limit your injuries if you rode a motorcycle! (Needless to say, none of our kids were ever allowed to ride one unless they bought it, they paid the insurance and they moved out of the house!!)

Just my own personal pet peeve...

Florida does not have a helmet law. It was stated earlier that the guy in this case was wearing one, thank goodness.

Default Florida's motorcycle helmet law only applies to 20 and under riders.

http://www.iihs.org/laws/helmetusecurrent.aspx

It does seem to require helmet for riders without medical insurance though.

Also, if you do have insurance and are in an accident without a helmet, insurance won't pay.

It's a high risk hobby and you have to minimize the risks.

Hard to tell from the photos. Does Mrs. TH have her own bike?

Does anyone have any info on how the guy in the accident is doing?

No, Mrs. TH doesn't have her own bike. She has the "Queen" seat on the back of mine (ours).

Played cards tonight with a friend of the rider. Numerous fractures. Motorcycle was only a month old but he was an experienced biker. Helmet saved his life to ride another day.

We have been motorcyclists for 40 years and are glad the driver is going to pull through.
Maryland has gone back and forth and finally +forth with the brain bucket laws, though a huge contingent sport tiny plastic skull caps that are made in China that say 'D.O.T.' but which do nothing more than hold the chunks in for an intact burial.

Not to come off as holier than thou, but experienced biker / shorts and sneakers is quite an oxyMORON.

TH looks like he's got the right gear., but if you and the queen are considering
hopping aboard your yacht, swap those combat boots for some topsiders and put on your life jacket

We hope to have the 'scooters' down yonder and hope to make bike week one year soon
