I seem to recall, at our orientation meeting, going over things like clear bags for recycling, garbage out at dusk (or something like that), breaking down cardboard boxes, etc. I even called the garbage service to make sure what/when I was supposed to do. The man I talked to told me it's pretty much impossible to get the people here to do as they have been asked about the trash. People always brag about the pristine appearance of TV, then immediately decide those rules, or suggestions, don't apply to THEM. Some of our neighbors don't even use plastic bags all the time. I have seen garbage and recycling actually tied together instead of in a bag.

One of the garbage pick up guys said often the garbage and recyling are both in white, or other colored bags, including store bags. They cannot make the call as to which is which, even if they can see obviously recylable items....can't know for sure some of it isn't trash, so if not using a clear bag, it just goes in the garbage.

My garbage/trash always goes in a dark bag and recycling goes in a clear bag on seperate sides of the drive-way.......just as we were asked to do....and nothing goes out before dark. I feel better doing it right, but that's just me!
Thank you. Those are the rules I was told and the rules I follow. I JUST put my trash out. I don't get it. People come here saying how clean and pristine and then don't follow the few rules given to everyone and get flipping nasty about it. I'm at a loss.

No, it's not perfect here but complaining in such a negative way has a tendency to bring out the worst in us. It sounds like you're doing your best to not like TV. Look around for the good stuff -- there's a lot of it. It's easy to find things to not like, try finding the things you do like. Give TV a chance.

"It sounds like you're".....but we can't see her facial expression nor the tone of her voice.

I know the mood or tone of statements often are perceived wrongly in online comments or in email, because we're not seeing the writer's facial expression and we're not hearing their tone of voice.

And often, people voice their concern/complaint on here because they are exasperated with behavior that most people would recognize as inconsiderate. In fact, the title of the thread says that: "It's a mystery to me". But some mocked her and some of us recognize that as inconsiderate.

Redwitch - good point, but we all have silly things that bother us and should be allowed to voice them without criticism. Don't you think???

I'm not angry or disliking The Villages. Just made an observation that got nasty unnecessarily. Wouldn't anyone get defensive with that negativity? I have the same rights as anyone else to say when something annoys me but apparently that's not permitted.

Well, now that is an entirely different matter.

I'm in Gilchrist and my neighbors put their trash out when they leave me here "alone" again after their brief vacays and go back to their jobs. They bounce in here for a few days and are gone. Their trash is out early because they didn't want to leave it in the house or carry it with them in the car.
Back when I rented for a month, I felt responsible to leave the garbage out when I left, regardless what day it would be picked up, so I understand why their garbage is there early.

Good points, and this brings up a question.

Wouldn't it be useful to have a dumpster or two for each village (fenced in and not out in the open), where we could take garbage that the garbage haulers won't pick up on the regular run, or bags that have stinky awful stuff like dog poop (oh geez...I said the words) that are awful to have smoldering in the garage for 4 days?

It would also be good for trash that the property managers and landlords bring out of a rental home after cleaning it the last day of the month and trash day is still 3 days away. It's sort of "trashy" to have somebody else's trash in the driveway for several days when a new renter or new homeowner arrives (I remember that when we came the first time to rent, and when we bought).

1562 hits on this thread and 54 posts........once again taking an isolated incident and treating it as if it were a general condition and growing......which it is not......

Isn't it time for the problem solved/question answered and the padlock?

Don't know about others, but when I check a home after renters leave, I take the trash home with me unless garbage pick up is the next day. Then, yes, I will leave it at the curb even if it is in the morning or the day before. To leave garbage out for more than one day is, to me, inexcusable.

Post #58. 57 comments, and the trash will still be going out early on Sunday morning.

ok, a neighbor put out a mattress and boxspring. after 2 regular trash pickups both of them were still there. i call community watch and they said they would look into it. ok. then another day went by and rolls of ripped up carpeting and the foam they put under it made it way onto the pile(which was now almost 5 feet tall). the weekend came and went, and then another regular trash day came and went. and then it finally disappeared. 10 days of this....yeah. these folks also had a car with a flat tire parked with the front wheels in the gutter of the street. that was only there for 4 days.
