We just closed on our CYV in Hemingway last Monday. Coming down the end of August to get it put together for renting with PM. I think we have most items covered, but was wondering where everyone gets the nice name signs on the light posts. Can't wait to get down there and enjoy it for about a week until we have to go back to reality for another year until we can retire.
Thanks, Steve |

Market night at the Squares. There are usually different vendors on each night -- the lit ones, the black and white, the colored. Sometimes the hard part is deciding what to say. Full names, just first, just last, address, pet names, etc. Have fun making your decision.

SBM,
Im not sure if you mean the ones that illuminate at night or not. We bought a beautiful name sign at the Markets of Marion (flea mkt.) but it doesnt light up at night. They are very inexpensive there and they do a beautiful paint job and it is weatherproof. Also many designs and scripts to choose from.

We bought our home through the Villages and were given a "coupon" by our Village agent for a sign. Redeemed it at Lake Sumter Landing on Tuesday night with the sign guy (whose name was on our coupon) However, we know a couple who bought in the past 2-3 months and they were not given a sign "coupon" even though they used the same agent. Ours does not light up but looks like most of the ones in our neighborhood.

Our sign is a handmade one.
We had contacted one of the sign makers at the square and never saw them again, after choosing everything we wanted. We did not give him any money. Since there are so many shapes, lettering, colors, etc for you to choose from I would suggest you ride around in TV to get an idea of what you like. I would also suggest you ride around at night to see the lighted signs. Welcome to the neighborhood. HB |

Hey, good luck in your new home, Steve! Our homemade wooden sign was made by an artist friend of our son's who's pretty talented not only with the lettering but with the carpentry as well. We simply gave him measurements and what we wanted on the sign (kept it simple--our first names and our house number) and left it to his discretion. We could not be more pleased!!!

Our sign was given by our sales rep. We closed by mail, when we came back to TV, our sign was in place. What a guy.

A warning about the signs --- I also purchased one at the square -- quite nice and I was/am highly satisfied. Handpainted, waterproof, name, address, and if I remember, a palm tree. After I installed it, I removed the large stick-on address numbers that were on all the homes during and after construction. Figured the sign had the address, why have two.
Well, later I noticed that you couldn't read the address at night, even though it's on the light pole. Tried it with the outside lights on -- no luck. About the only way it can be read is by shining a flashlight on it. Originally I thought the lighted signs were a bit of an overkill, but in retrospect I believe it would be worth the extra $$$ and they can be tastefully done.

The numbers stuck on the windows aren't beautiful, but are good for night emergencies -- all the above sources are good, but you can also get signs from Ace hardware -- We got sign vendor coupons for both our Duval and Hemingway houses from our realtor, also baskets of goodies and wine, show tickets, dining certificate, party invites, maps, mouse pads, note pads etc. Great realtor !!!!!!!!! Go Deb !!!!!! Many also get business/social cards with your new information to pass out, saves time short term -- Welcome -- Lucko

Lucko,
Sounds like you would recommend your realtor. Would you mind sharing name and company/phone number. My brother is looking. Thanks

I too was given a certificate for a sign by my Villages sales agent. The printing shop where I redeemed it (I think the name of the place was Unique Printing) were very nice. They knew I was only there for a week at that time and they had the sign done in a couple days.

I seem to remember reading in the covenants (or something) that the numbers in the window (as ugly as they may be) are not to be removed or changed so that the property can be easily found in emergencies.
