I'm a serious "do it yourselfer" and I wanted to make some window treatments for our cyv but I'm having a heck of a time finding a fabric store with any kind of selection of decorator fabrics. JoAnns has a lot of stuff but nothing in my colors or fabric choices. I know there must be a discount fabric store around these woods somewhere! I was told about a fabric store on Main Street in Leesburg but it only has cottons suitable for quilting, etc.
Thanks for any help/suggestions! My cornice kits will be coming in next week!

There is a perfectly lovely fabric shop called Quilter's Dream in Leesburg at 715 E Main St., (352-728-1482). All kinds of decorator fabrics, very knowledgeable and helpful.

Oops, sorry, I didn't read through your message before replying. I would ask the people at Southern Lifestyles. Also have you done a Google search for fabric stores in this area - add the zip code at the end of your query - i.e. fabric stores 32162.

Are you doing cornices only at this point, Wendy? (where you don't need yards and yards?) If so...
You may find readymade panels, designer fabric shower curtains, (JC Penny, Bed Bath&Beyond, TJ Maxx,etc.) that appeal to you and may provide enough material to work with, without breaking the budget.

I once used a lively Marimekko tablecloth to make a cornice and matching roller shade. In one house, I used table napkins, overlapped on the diagonal, for a cornice in the kitchen, with a matching table runner for the table and then stuffed matching fabric placemats to serve as lumbar pillows on the kitchen chairs. They were comfortable too!

Half the fun for me is thinking 'outside the box'. I hope you really enjoy your project! Maybe we can persuade you to post photos when you are done!

If you don't mind a ride west to Homosassa, there's Winder's Fabric Outlet at 6009 Route 19 (352-628-5752). You might call and ask about their location. I was last there well over a year ago; at that time I went to the store on Route 19. However, they had/have another nearby location that I think they were remodeling so they may have consolidated or have two stores, etc. Anyway, besides a decent selection, the prices were VERY reasonable. Not a fancy store (at the time, anyway). Lots of rolls of fabric close together.

In Ocala there's Hobby Lobby. Not a wide selection but maybe they'll have The One.

Tampa has Calico Corners and Hancock. Calico Corners has a web site where you can view their fabrics. There are also quite a few Boca Bargoons stores in Florida, including one in Tampa; I went to the one in Tampa and wasn't particularly impressed. However, if you're in the area anyway, it's worth a look.

I liked Winder's the best, probably because I found The One for me there.

I have always had success at G Street fabric stores and they also have an online store with great deals as there are none close to TV.

Wendy...I think I have your answer. Decorator fabric choices have become narrower and narrower as less people sew nowadays. I have successfully used Fabric.com. now for our home in Ohio, the one in Hadley and now the new one. They are the best on line. They will send you swatches for a very minimal fee and I just recently ordered a total of 30 yards of fabric from them to do drapes, valances, window seat and throw pillows....at less than eight dollars a yard! (Great quality, 54" wide,) the real deal. Free shipping. They have a great web site and more choices than Hancock or Joann's. (Even with the discount, I think Joann's is VERY costly)

Their website auto suggests fabrics that match, blend, go with the one you are looking at.

And WENDY....When are you coming over? Today is good!!

Thanks for your ideas. It did occur to me yesterday that an 84" drapery panel would be just perfect for a cornice, HOWEVER, I am finding drapes very drab in color at this point plus so cheesy out of polyester and microfibers. I like the way you think though. Will post pics when I can figure it out.

Thanks for the invite Gracie and the referral of fabric.com. I was looking at their fabrics last night and it looked interesting. I'm probably going to order some stuff right now as I'm anxious to get busy with my project. I don't like heavy drapes and plan to use some sort of light sheers and add some color and texture in a cornice treatment. Nothing fancy, just something to keep me busy!

I know I'll love your house and can't wait to see it.

Calico Corners has gorgeous decorator fabrics. It is well worth the ride to Tampa or Altamonte Springs
