I tried 2 out of the 3 of these without any luck.
I like the one about pulling a sticker off the apple the best.

Lick your finger and use that wet finger to open that bag

If the store has a dispenser of alcohol wipes, take one and knot it to your cart. Use that to wet your finger.

Don’t use them…have a reusable bag with you.

A few options:
1. Go over near the open produce wall where you'll find the lettuce. Something there will have some moisture on it. Touch that, and open the bag.
2. Pinch the opening of the bag between thumb and forefinger, and hold in place for a minute. Eventually the warmth between your fingers will create moisture, and the bag will open up.
3. Lick your finger - the least sanitary option, especially since you've been touching things since you entered the store (including the basket handle) and then putting your finger in your mouth. (we all did it when we were younger and survived - it really isn't a big deal but people are weird and get skittish if they see other people doing it)
4. Ask an employee to open it.
5. Rub moisturizer on your hands before you get in the store.
6. Use the tip of a fingernail to scratch UPward at the side of the bag. This will riffle the layers, making it easier to open.
7. Put the bag up /near/ your mouth and say HAH to it - as if you were cleaning your sunglasses. That'll be just about enough moisture to get it open.
8. Use hand sanitizer on your fingertip.
9. Bring your own bags, already opened.
10. Click your heels three times and say "there's no place like home."

Most, if not all UK supermarkets do not supply plastic bags large or small anymore.
Goods are either already wrapped or loose.
You can buy reusable bags.
Pack your own purchases at checkout, bring your own carry bags.
Return your shopping trolley or lose your £1.
Way the shops are cutting staff, we'll probably be doing a bit of shelf stacking before we will be allowed to shop soon!

I pull the bags down from the roller until it latches on the hook. I then open the bag while it is still latched. Once I open the bag I pull it from the latch. It makes it a lot easier. No figuring out which end is the open side. Hope this helps.

If there is a hand cleaner nearby put your fingers under it to get them wet. Usually there is one by the meat dept. in Walmart.

Rub the opening area of the bag briskly between your two hands and it should open more easily?

I agree with the wet fingers and thumb recommendations. Works every time.
