If you don't want to lick your finger, go to the part of the produce section where the produce gets sprayed. Get your fingers wet by touching a wet vegetable and then the bags will open.

In my experience the best thing to do is find a woman to do it for you. When it comes to shopping they know all the tricks!

I'm a fan of taking reusable bags with me, or at least using the plastic grocery ones twice, take a couple in your pocket when you come back next time just to use for the produce. You have to put the ears in silk-end down. That way they don't rip the bag.
