New 7 Eleven
Any news on the opening of the new Magnolia 7 eleven or is it going to sit empty like the 2 up in Lady Lake? They have been done for couple of months with no opening in site.

Agree. It is in the retailer's best interest to open as soon as possible. Remember when McGrady's was set to open? They were delayed nearly a month because they had difficulty hiring staff.

Do not know answer, but I can not believe that any person/business is opening any type of business that requires low wage workers in this environment. Buckeyes will probably open in Ocala in next year and they need over 150 employees. Bet a high % of the new Florida workers are not working age and/or are looking for a low paying job.

buildings could be completed, but supplies, stock and even fuel could be the biggest issues, along with employees.

I was told by one of the employees at the Villages Golf Car store at Magnolia Plaza that the 7-Eleven is scheduled to open on June 22.

On Thursday I drove by and saw several cars at the pumps, even though the gas price sign wasn't turned on. I thought "maybe they're doing a 'soft' opening" (new businesses often do this to test systems, train brand new employees/staff, etc. before an official opening) so I pulled in and parked by the front door. A guy came out and said "We're not open!" I replied "Then why do I see cars at the pumps?" and he just repeated that they're not open. Then a woman came out (the co-owner/spouse?) and explained they won't be open until July because they have electrical issues that need to be fixed. The cars at the pumps of course figured out that they weren't working and drove away. I'm sure the owners are as frustrated as many of us. They got their very first gasoline deliveries about a month ago. Their underground tanks are full with thousands of gallons, and they're unable to sell any of it. And no sales of the much higher profit margin convenience items inside the store ā for several more weeks. In the meantime we'll have to go elsewhere to get our Buffalo Chicken Rollers. |

Note that all of the other 7-Eleven stores in the area are open 24 hours per day.

Pay Scales
Guess you've never checked Bucee's pay scales. Much higher than most in the business.
As for labor shortages in general. It's a generational situation with under educated lazy individuals who've been given everything while growing up. Still want to be taken care of by someone without worrying. It's now taxpayers. |
