Stay away from Jenkins dealerships . I know they are close and convenient but they are going to get in your wallet. Paid 9k less in Ocala for the same Honda Ridgeline.

Isn't that like taking sex advice from a Catholic priest? Who in theory, doesn't have sex?

All those fees are just profits for the dealer and the markup is about 90%. You can try to negotiate them but be prepared to “walk out”. Always have the give you the “out the door” price with a breakdown. As mentioned above you should probably hire a car buying service but do some research on who you hire. Go on YouTube and do a search. You will get a better deal in Orlando or Tampa than local.

Considering the average markup from Dealer Invoice to MSRP is less than 8%, good luck.

I tried to use the free Costco buying service, but I got the feeling that the dealer was just using the service to get customers in the door. The only thing they offered was a discount on maintenance services that I would never use at a dealership anyway. Costco was no help at all, and they couldn't even explain why I should use their service, except for the maintenance discounts.

Remember the goal, the acquisition for transportation by a piece of future junk at the lowest cost to you:
The extra charges can all stay, the cost of the car pre extra fees is the negotiation point. Play their game in reverse, which all results in the same final cost to you, and always get dealer financing, and then pay off the loan afterwards. The dealer will appreciate that, and you will get a better price. . . However, if the goal is the acquisition of transportation at the lowest cost to you,a 3 year old, low mileage, certified used car is your best opportunity due to the largest percentage of depreciation having already occurred, and the opportunity for a long period of ownership at a low milage per year in a saltless environment is priceless. There will be minimal fees, lots of opportunities, and you can still negotiate if you want, and not compete with dealer incentives. . Cars are not investments, the average car is all future junk, and why waste extra money on future junk? behavioral finance operates here, where rational purchases are overridden by human emotions and biases. good luck to us out there! |

I agree. The OP listed bogus fees that total $2,085. Why would you attempt to negotiate fees that are bogus to begin with? Any negotiation of these fees tells the salesperson that you agree that the fees are legitimate and the only thing in question is how much they should cost. The only number that should be discussed is the out-the-door price.

I recommend watching YouTube videos like “Kevin Hunter The Homework Guy” & others on youtube for info on buying cars.
Many dealers will state fees are not negotiable because they could be accused of discrimination if they don't charge the same fee to everyone. Apparently Florida is the worst for excessive fees. However the Out The Door" price is negotiable but difficult. You need to do a lot of research to negotiate and don't believe them when they say this is the price they pay as I get hold backs from the manufacturers for lower price and incentives.
