I never thought I would see this happening but from various new sources:
>>> Lumos is expanding its 100% fiber-optic internet network into The Villages, Florida, with construction planned to begin in May or June 2026. The project, which is part of a 7,500-mile expansion across Florida in partnership with T-Mobile, aims to provide high-speed internet to the area, starting near Morse Boulevard and U.S. Hwy. 441 before moving southward. Lumos, which works with T-Mobile, presented its installation plans Friday to supervisors of community development districts 1-3. Lumos started in North Carolina, has installed cable in Florida from Fort Myers to Pensacola and has worked in Citrus County. It also has installed cable in 10 other southern and midwestern states. A previous, unrelated project by Lumen/Quantum Fiber was acquired by AT&T. Lumos is a distinct entity now expanding its own network in the region. <<< So, what does this all mean? 1) More choices for internet service for residents living here in the Villages. 2) Bundled deals for those with T-Mobile cell service. 3) More competition for the cable companies that have an exclusive in these areas, meaning residents only have cable as an option for internet. At the end-of-the-day, the is great news for residents of the Villages and very bad news for the cable companies. The cable companies are scraping the bottom offering as low of a price they can already to retain customers in the face of competition from Quantum Fiber, fixed wireless internet from T-Mobile, ATT and Verizon and Starlink. As mentioned, the cable companies have a "lock" in certain areas of the Villages where there is no choice except for their service which will now end.. I can remember when Quantum Fiber expanded into Bonita Villas last year. Almost everyone switched to Quantum Fiber in a very short periond of time. |

It's $65/month if you're okay with autopay, and $55/month if you have autopay plus have a phone line through Verizon (not including the cost of the Verizon phone line). All of this is not including taxes and fees. With Xfinity, it's $70/month, inclusive of taxes and fees, for straight 500mbps service. You get a break if you do autopay, and the $70/month includes a year of a phone line. |

It's very common for these providers to have different pricing and plans depending on the location in order to be competitive. |

We just switched from Spectrum to Quantum fiber now AT&T. Awesome speed through out the house but recommend you set it up with a Mesh router. As of right now unfortunately AT&T does not have any competitive cell service deals. Hopefully that will change.

The T-Mobile Fiber (Lumos) landing page does not specify any area at all. The offer is 500Mbps for $75/mo unless you also choose a phone line and authorize autopay. My address is only eligible for the waitlist.

From what I understand, all the trucks will be wrapped with ATT shortly. But I agree it's confusing. For our area already with Quantum Fiber I don't expect Lumus to do any digging and installing new fiber at our homes. What may happen in the future is we may be able to get either Quantum or Lumus fiber using the existing fiber already installed. I know up north you can do this with Century Link and Quantum Fiber and in many parts of the country this is very common. As far as the ATT cellular service, as discussed, it's probably only good if you are paying-off new phones from another carrier since ATT will pay off the phones and you can be put on the 55+ plan where they can give you a new phone if you need one like an iPhone 16 that's being offered now. But I agree, if you have Consumer Cellular, Mint, Visible or any other discount cell service then ATT cellular is not competitive right now. This may change in the future according to Nick but we will have to wait and see. From what I'm seeing on the installs that I'm involved with, you would think everyone in the Villages is on a "discount" cell plan but actually it's a good mix. Many on Verizon or T-mobile premium plans paying-off phones and many with the discount plans like Consumer Cellular for example. I'm glad your Quantum installation worked out well when we installed the Moca adaptors to place your EERO wifi devices in the most optimal locations. It's good that you are getting close to 1Gbs mostly all over your home. Last edited by jrref; 02-20-2026 at 10:45 AM. |

With Quantum and Centric fiber already here in the Villages, the pricing over the past 5 years has been very stable. For Lumus to be competitive with the cable companies they have to offer competitive pricing or no one will switch and their fiber investment will be wasted. Given that, once it's available here in the Villages we will have to see what they offer. |

Would they have access in the southern areas that have fiber to post? |
