Default Speed Limit signs in Labelle

We have lived in TV for almost five years. We first lived in TV of Charlotte and now in North Labelle. In TV of Charlotte there were 15 MPH speed limit signs all over. There are no speed limit signs in North Labelle. I called Sumter County and they said that recently there was a survey or study done on speeds and if there is no speed limit sign then the regulation is 20MPH. All types of contractor trucks and cars go up and down my street at well above 20 mph. I was just wondering if there were to be a serious accident and no speed limit is posted then there seems to be a lot of liability to TV. How are new residents suppose to know the speed limit? It is not posted anywhere.

On the main roads entering TV there are signs stating the the speed limit within TV is 20 mph unless otherwise posted. These signs were posted by Sumter County, not TV. The speed limits are set by the county, not TV, so any liability is the county's, not TV's.

Sounds like OP wants speed limit reduced from 20mph to 15mph. A golf cart is allowed to go 20mph so that might be why county quit putting up 15mph signs.

A runner doing a 4 minute mile is running 15 MPH. Do you really expect that a golf cart, let alone a full size car would hold to that low speed for very long?

15 mph is absurd anywhere. I have trouble trying to keep my car from going over 20.

Kind of like trying to go 10 mph while going down Paige Place into Spanish Springs. That's the posted speed limit, but if you try to do it, you may get run over.

What makes you think speed limit signs will slow someone down who wants to go faster? It's never worked before and it won't work now.

A golf cart is allowed to go "no more than 20mph" unless the posted speed limit is less! If it's less.... slow down and do less.

So the County thinks they can post a speed limit sign of 20 MPH at a gate entrance where the speed limit is 35MPH after you pass through the gate and the average driver is going to know that the speed limit on the side streets in a residential area is 20 MPH with no signs.....I doubt that will occur. If there is no posted speed limit in a village on the street and a driver going 25 or up to 40 hits another car, golf cart, walker, runner, biker then any good attorney is going to suggest a legal action against some entity.
