Default New Tax?

A friend up North asked how I like our new tax in Florida. Any Idea what he could be talking about? I have not been here long enough to notice a difference.

Only "New Tax" reference I could find for Florida is this info from April 2009. Hope this helps.

State Senate OK's $1 cigarette-tax increase
With a 39-0 vote, the state Senate overcomes the anti-tax mantra and passes a historic increase in the state's cigarette tax.

TALLAHASSEE -- The Florida Senate unanimously voted Thursday to raise the state cigarette tax $1 per pack in an historic vote on a bill that two years ago couldn't even get a hearing.

The 39-0 vote came despite intense lobbying from Big Tobacco, a stinging letter of disapproval from Republican anti-tax crusader Grover Norquist, and obvious opposition from both the governor and House Republicans.

Could it be the higher fees for licenses and car tags?

Yep, one of the most hated taxes in the country, one that keeps on taking year after year. A few years back Washington State voters revolted against high car taxes and won. Could follow here.

BUT, I would rather pay a "user" tax if I happen to use something that is taxed, instead of a state income tax that we are ALL forced to pay.
