Three (relatively small) people fit pretty easily although snugly across the front bench seat of my standard Yamaha 2-person golf cart. No need for any laps. To me that feels safe and safer than having one person in the back of our backward facing 2+2 cart. But I guess big brother knows best.

I hope they are going after the speeding golf carts too. Lots of them are going faster than 20 mph

With only two seatbelts in a 2-person golf cart. You're content knowing that whoever sits in the middle might end up ejected and dead? I mean - you do you but personally, I'm not okay with that possibility. If you're in my golf cart, you wear your seatbelt. And since there's only one available other than mine, there's only one other person allowed to ride in it.

Two small people easily fit under one seat belt and the driver has their own seatbelt.

One of my carts has no belts and no carts are required to have belts. Belts are not the issue.

You say this as an e-bike comes flying past me doing at least 35mph. Then blowing thru a stop sign at a Villager entrance.

I have full confidence in myself as the driver to be able to do so without harm to said child. For those that don’t like it, that’s their problem and I really don’t care what they think. It’s my business, not theirs.
I HAVE to disagree. That is dangerous to someone that is too young to realize the danger and speak up for themselves. Also, golf carts are inherently dangerous because they are built to ride on golf course grass. Not PAVEMENT.

Exactly what I have been saying.

Yes, 2 people can fit, but the question is can they fit and be as safe as children with their own individual seat belt. I wonder if any laboratory studies with crush dummies have ever been made concerning that?

I see that as partly an e-bike problem, but MOSTLY a lack of enforcement problem !

I would guess that 80 % of the severity of golf cart accidents are due to NOT using seat belts.

I don't have any seat belts in my cart. I could install some, and that would doubtless enhance safety. I haven't done that so have tacitly accepted the risk you vividly point out. I could put in three seatbelts, but no reason to do so now as my three-in-the-front behavior is now evidently a misdemeanor in my city.

I was fine but my car had $8000 worth of damage. Luckily there are cameras at the gate houses. Cars do not have the right of way! He did not have insurance and lived in Illinois. My insurance company eventually got the money back and I got back my $1000 deductible. I can’t imagine riding in a golf cart with three people no less with a child.
Do or do not? Proofreading mistake?

I’m sure some underestimate how dangerous they are but I’ve read more comments from those who feel lucky to have survived their experiences with what they consider to be death traps.
A child is defined as 2-12 years old.

Just because it's legal to have a infant/child sitting on your lap doesn't exonerate you from criminal charges if something fatal happens to that child.

The Amish man’s case is a prime example. It wasn't against the law for the child to ride on the tractor but once death is in involved it becomes a whole different story.

You can’t reason with someone who is more concerned his granddaughter is having fun than concerned for her safety. Imagine him having to call his daughter or daughter-in-law to explain why his granddaughter is in the hospital with a broken arm or something far worse due to his poor choices.
