Or a mastiff that didn't think it was a lap dog. Need to own the dog? Spoil someone else's dog and leave the owner with the problems. We had a wirehair fox terrier. We paid for a course in obedience training a large group. The paid instructor KICKED US
AND OUR DOG OUT. You will never train this dog. It was a great dog. Wild? I had four wild cousins. Regular routine they would take off in at least 6-7 directions. My border collie-mutt loved herding them.

We travel with our Lab and stay at Hampton Inn, Hilton Garden , Residence & Fairfield Inns etc. Haven’t found any hotels that are dog friendly that don’t have a surcharge, just part of the game.

We had a wirehair fox terrier and had the honor of being kicked out of obedience class

Some people will tell the hotel that their dog or dogs are service dogs. The hotel cannot charge a fee for service dogs, per the ADA law.

Get a Springer Spanial with hunting breeding, not show breeding.

We have heard that those places are nicer pet friendly options, but unfortunately they also seem to be predominantly located in larger urban areas, which we try to avoid if at all possible when traveling. Driving 1,350 miles is stressful enough without getting caught up in urban traffic.

When we started commuting between our two homes twelve winters ago most hotels we stayed at didn’t have pet fees, but over the years just about all of them began charging fees. Most Red Roof Inns still don’t charge a fee, but they also tend to be total dumps.

The fees to fly with a small dog in a pet carrier, that fits under a seat, also keeps rapidly climbing. Jet Blue now charges $150 to fly one way with our little guy stuffed under the seat in front of us, which is more than we typically paid for a human taking up a seat until recently.

My son and his family have a Boston and that is a fun dog to have around. Oh, I want a dog that travels. My first Papillion when the suitcase came out he would start running around the house he was so excited.
We have had Dachshunds for years, all girls & lost the last 2 4 years ago & I am on the fence a lot thinking about getting another. Best of luck with your decision, it’s hard being without, I tend to love on dogs I meet along the way. Mary

How about a pair of dogs that have always lived together and for whatever reason end up at an area shelter. Sumter Humane Society at Lake Pan has had many paired up dogs available for adoption. It's worth a look.
