We are not a gated community but should be. Here in Tall Trees unauthorized use of our pools is a problem. I was told the apartments near Hobby Lobby tells their residents our pools is their for there use. I was there and The Villages reps removed unauthorized personnel. How about needing a card for using our pools?

I don't think they've really ever discussed the gates in earnest. They KNOW it's too expensive. It's merely lip service to appease those complaining that they THOUGHT they bought into a gated community. Those folks didn't do their homework.

We never open the window. We just place the card against the window and the gate opens.

You just have to get close enough.

If “close enough” turns out to be two inches and requires driving onto the curb, is “get closer” a reasonable answer?

Not all gates and vehicles are the same. There are different heights and some gates are less sensitive than others. For example, I have a chip in my mirror, but the gate at Pinellas Place and Morse Blvd is more difficult to activate than others.

From Chief Engineer Montgomery Scott on the Starship Enterprise. Or did that mean TRANSPONDER?

Good idea. They would need something like this GL1 Electromechanical Gate Lock | Securitron and then add a card reader, and the card reader gets connected to a controller, and the controller would need to get updated somehow with the latest list of cards, etc. For the pools that are not part of a rec center where there is already internet, etc. it may get a little complex but anything is possible.

I think that all of the pools are part of a rec center, and managed by the Recreation Department, except the private ones that are located at the championship golf courses.

Not all pools are located at a rec center so not all pools have internet connectivity today.

We have found *any* key fob works...the round 1/2" disk I have on my key ring to access doors at work and the one on my wife's key chain for our vacation home--both work on all the gates we have tried here in the Villages. We no longer use our TV cards--just the fob in our pocket.

IDK-maybe I'm unlocking the doors at work every time I swipe my key ring at the gate reader on Marsh Bend Trail...
Does the key card work at the other locations too?

Can't get any closer unless you drive up and over the curb... Sorry, but I'm not wrecking my alloy wheels... But I'm glad it works FOR YOU!
