Our first visit to TV we rented a place with a cart, and loved it

Second time we just used our car, and it didn't feel like TV

So now we have two carts and no car

Default Another one with 2 carts and 1 car

We usually only drive the car off the reservation. 2 carts (we do different stuff many times) works well also when you have guests and grandkids. With one 4 seater and one 2 seater, we can usually accommodate everyone, or split up to do different things. Grandkids absolutely love riding around in the golfcart with Grandma and/or Grandpa.

My sister's husband doesn't really see the need for one (they're not here yet), but I think that will change once they move down. I think his issue is that he's not really comfortable driving one yet and doesn't really know his way around yet. He still uses his Garmin when driving the car here and there.

Do try it!
The best pictures in my iPhoto collection are from golf cart rides. You are so right, it is a pleasant way to spend a few hours, especially with a camera.

While you don't "need" a golf cart, driving around TV in a golf cart is part of the experience of living here. It's relaxing and cool and a lot of fun. We got rid of one car and have 2 golf carts. We only use the car maybe once a week. Love saving on gas!

We just became full time residents and planned on having one car and one cart (we just bought a GEM recently). Unfortunately (or maybe not!) we are still waiting for our car to be delivered from Panama (it may be a month longer), but we have found it a wonderful experience just exploring the area with our GEM. I have a suspicion that when the car finally arrives, my wife and I will have a tough time deciding who gets to take the GEM and who gets stuck driving the car. I have found that exploring TV with our GEM has taught us to learn the area quicker and has allowed us to feel more a "part" of the community.

Another factor to consider .... if you bring 2 cars down and register/title both of them, it'll be a hefty set of fees. If you soon discover you only need one car, that's a lot of wasted money on title/registration fees.

A golf cart is what makes The Villages what it is. Without a golf cart I might as well stayed where I used to live and drive everywhere in a air conditioned sterile cage. Going 20mph gives you the opportunity to really look and see and smell the enviroment. You notice things that you'd miss in a car. I expecially enjoy the multi model paths with all the twist and turns of a mountain road. You don't HAVE to have a golf cart, but you are missing so much of TV experience. One of the biggest advantages is when you go to one of the squares is it is easier to find a parking space in the cart than a car. You can get 3 carts in a single parking space. Besides, it is just fun to drive!Last year I put 4,000 miles on my cart.
